06 CTS-V Used Oil Analysis AMSOIL 0w30 vs Mobil 1 5w30

I recently got back my used oil analysis from Blackstone Labs from my initial use of the now discontinued AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30 in my 06 CTS-V. The Series 2000 0w30 was replaced by the AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic 0w30 which I plan to switch to on my next oil change.

For those interested in seeing how the AMSOIL performed as compared to my previous analysis using the factory fill Mobil 1 5w30, here is the data:

Re: 06 CTS-V Used Oil Analysis AMSOIL 0w30 vs Mobil 1 5w30

Interesting, although the possible break-in effects on the Mobil1 sample seem to make a direct comparison of the results difficult.

Just a note, the "Miles on Unit" block of your table is off, I think. You went 3300 miles on the Amsoil, but the "Miles on Unit" only went up 300 miles. Or am I just misunderstanding what the block is supposed to mean?

PS - We've met briefly, sir.

You are right about the break-in making the comparison hard, but I'm still pleased with the drop in wear metals.

Nice catch on the total mileage typo. I caught that myself this morning but didn't have time to fix it before going to my "day" job. Actual mileage after the AMSOIL sample was 13,936. Got it fixed now.

Amsoil is great stuff. In fact I have some of their gear lube sitting in my garage after a new diff goes in. The problem I have is finding the stuff local to me. Don't really feel like paying shipping on 6 quarts of oil every time I have an oil change.

Dropping you a PM with info on the AMSOIL Preferred Customer Program. This program allows you to buy at dealer wholesale, about 25% under retail, which more than offsets shipping. In general, I buy by the case of 12 and the shipping comes down to about $0.88 per quart. Not too bad and saves me a trip to somewhere... which at $4.00 per gallon of gas isn't free either.
