How many low 11 second cars are here?

Remove this ad
Basically, I am thinking about buying a CTS, but I want to see how easy it is to make it in the lower 11s. I figured after intake/header/exhaust/cam/heads it would be close. Let me hear a few opinions. A search did not yield the results I am looking for.

Thanks-

These aren't good cars for drag races.... I would dare say not that many will hit your threshold.

Re: How many low 11 second cars are here?

A few Vs have gone sub-12, one with a 427 and spray, another with a SC.
It is your first post, not sure if you understand the V was built for the track and not the strip.
The rear-end is not able to take hard launches or high HP-it will grenade on hard shifts if you are near 500RWHP.
Also, you stated 'CTS', I am sure you meant CTS-V, as there is a huge difference.
You may not want to buy a V, as to attain a low 11-second time, you will probably spend as much on mods as you do for the V, assuming you are in the market for a used one at $25-30K.
BTW, it weighs almost 4,000 lbs, not ideal for the 1,320'.

Re: How many low 11 second cars are here?

one bad cad, I would say your car is probably pretty close to a mid 11 from a roll no? meaning, have you ever roll raced a mid 11 second car before? I would guess you would be even with one.

Our cars just cannot cut 60 foots necessary to run low 11's. IMO.

Re: How many low 11 second cars are here?

Yes, I am indeed talking about the 'V'. Sorry I didnt just add the 'v' to the end of CTS, I just figured since this was a CTS-V forum, you guys would obviously know I was talking about the 'V' itself.

Moving on...

I drive an Evo right now, that is around a mid 11 second car, and im wanting the same for my next car. I have read alot about these cars over the last week, and have read much about the rear differential problem, which has me a little skeptical over this particular car. I was hoping to get an answer, like 'yes, from a roll its a 11 second car, but from a stop, not so much', but I see how it is now.

I love the interior, but I might just step into the Vette then. I just hate the C5 Interior, and cant afford the C6.

*sigh*, what to do, what to do.

Torn between all the pros and cons, tough place to be....

What do you think of Dodge or Chrysler products? I am guessing you are looking for something kind of exotic? But then you like the Corvette. Don't get me wrong, I like Vettes too.

You could get the new G8 and stick out for a couple months til they become a little more common. Neighbor lady four doors up just bought a black one, we are going to see a ton of these around.

Just tired of the EVO?

Re: How many low 11 second cars are here?

I came from an Evo IX MR which had the full bolt-ons and an AMS tune. It was an 11 sec car without a problem due mainly to it's awesome launch. The V just will not be able to replicate the same launch. Not even with a Maggie.

But, as much as I loved my Evo, I like driving the V more. Maybe I'm getting older but the V has a much nicer interior and overall feel. It is nowhere near as frenzied as the Evo. It does not have the same awesome grip and sheer cornering power but it is a good handling car. The smooth linear powerband is excellent but you will not have that shot out of a cannon feel as you have in the Evo when it hits 22 psi. That is what I really miss about the Evo

I think your main question is whether or not the V can run with the big dogs from a roll. I think with the mods you listed from a roll the V can run with a high 11 sec Evo especially as the speeds increase. Third and fourth gear in the V is very strong and there is no doubt it will be able to pull hard enough to keep up with a stock turbo Evo and probably outrun the 2003 VIII's if they don't have cams.

The V is a great car and an overall great driving experience. I have not regretted buying it and I am hoping to add to the experience real soon with the addition of a supercharger.

Re: How many low 11 second cars are here?

I was dead even with a Camaro that ran low 10's........from a 40mph roll
If you want to run low 11's more than once at the strip you will need a roll bar, so about the fastest you'll see is an 11.5
These cars are not made for the 1320, you'll need to do a lot ($$$$$) to get in the 11's

Re: How many low 11 second cars are here?

Life isnt all about quarter mile...The V was designed to kick ass on turns as well...

I am totally stayin away from traffic light starts as much as possible, even though i mentioned i burnt a M3 from a light...I like runnin on the highway and downshiftin to 4th and pullin away...
