I am a newbie to this forum, but I thought I'd share my thoughts on "coming home" to GM.
The last GM product I purchased was in 1997 (A DCM 1996 Impala SS). I bought my Impala SS and drove it for the next 7 years as a daily driver. The overwhelming cheap ass workmanship and materials sent me over to the Bavarians. Since 03' I have owned a 328is, 540is, X5, and an M Roadster.
The BMWs will spoil you with their performance, styling, and quality (but you do pay for it). As long as I drove BMWs, I never had a failed HVAC, crappy door panels rattling, or insufferable wind noise. I swore I would never drive another GM product again...until I heard about the new direction Cadillac is taking.
I don't buy new cars (I let someone else take the sticker humping from the stealer). A used Caddy looked a lot cheaper than a used BMW, so I suggested it to my wife, and she had a fit, "A Cadillac! A Cadillac! That's an old man's car." So she thought until she drove the 2004 CTS we ended up buying. She aggravated me so much about the darn car, I gave it to her. This opened up another window for me....the CTS-V.
WOW! I found one at a Carmax at Southlake (GA), had it transferred to Town Center (GA), and bought it (not before another salesman tried to get it transferred back to the original store - TWICE!) My salesman had to fight to keep it on the lot (THANKS Mo Sonko at Carmax, Town Center). I drove my Black Raven out of that lot like a thief with prying eyes all around. I had no idea these cars were getting this much attention.
I love it so far. I love the HP for the buck (reminds me of my 1st muscle car -92' Mustang 5.0 sedan). The Caddy is so refined, but a beast in power.
I have the usual gripes that all CTS owners share: the peeling Rubbermaid looking dash, flaking nav buttons, wheel hop on the 1-2 shift, and some interior cheese (at least GM does make a good cupholder). Overall, I have truly come home.
About every 10 years, GM does something cool and then screws up by getting rid of it....
80's - Buick Grand National
90's - Cyclone, Typhoon, Impala SS
00s - GTO, CTS-V, G8
Let's hope the costcutting butt nuggets at GM consider that this CTS is not a fluke. It is simply what we have demanded for years...Dependability, Quality, and Performance (not just HP but Handling & Braking).
Cheers,
