I then examined it closely and the finish behind the knob on the console is starting to come off also.
I read on this forum just now about the radio knobs flaking, I’ll dry a permanent marker, but what about the problem behind the knobs??? Has anyone had this problem and what did you do? Did anyone have the console, maybe not the correct term, the enclosure for the NAV system and radio area, replaced because of this? If so, how much did it cost? Thanks. |

Thanks. | If your still in warranty they should cover that.
I had the vent panel above the radio replaced under warranty for the same reason. "that was when I still had a warranty"

I coated my buttons with a spray clear satin epoxy as per the FAQ. Now, 25K miles later there is no flaking whatsoever. Nevertheless, GM will continue to replace entire radios if button paint flakes. You do not actually receive a brand-new virgin radio, but rather the current edition that has been recycled with new buttons.
My sense is that these buttons are painted with a spray laquer, which is not the best long-lasting finish when frequently touched by human hands. |
