    FG2 install + reflash

I am taking the car in Thursday (27th) to get the oil gauge reflash and the FG2 kit installed.

    FYI:

GM manual says 4 hour install which is costing me around $460 (that includes an alignment).

So I paid around $1180 for the shocks which was the 'shop price' and $460 for install. That's what it will run at the average dealer with no negotiation, for the whole shebang. The guy did cut me a break on the price they are supposed to charge $1365 I think it is (their price is $970 but oh well).

So I will update everyone on Thurs as to the state of the V-ness. Hopefully Memorial Day traffic won't be bad so I can wind the thing up a bit on the way home.

I am getting a loaner hope they give me an SRX or something interesting.

Good deal! I guess that means your dealer was able to confirm the 27th as the date the reflash would be available. That's comforting to know, too, that two dealers in NJ are working with the same information! You'll know if the reflash works before I'm able to pick my car up, which is probably June 10th (the day after I'm back in the States). I can't wait!

how do you find out if your car is a candidate for teh reflash? or are they all by default? do you need to request it or will my dealer be calling me?

Do you guys (or miscreant) have the DOC ID for the reflash? I stopped by my dealer to check and they couldn't find it in the system. I looked over his shoulder while he was on "deaelrworld" and did not see it yet.

Do you guys know the GM DOC ID so he can find it directly?

    Thanks,

    Reed

I don't know if they'll send it to me, but I've requested the DOC ID via e-mail from my dealer. I'll post it if I get it.

The update applies to all V-series built with vin breakpoints prior to 40181396. There are cars built before April 14,2004. If the last 8 of your vin number is prior to this, it applies to your car.

Well, that's just about everybody here, including myself -- and I haven't even picked up my car yet, but I know already that the last 6 digits are 166597 (13 miles on the car). Otherwise I'm still waiting to hear about the DOC ID (I'm six hours ahead here and they open at 9 ET, so I doubt they've seen my request yet).

Okay, first set of pictures from this morning:

I snapped a few of the CTS's with the new grille figured some of the CTS people might like that. If that thing is new (??).

That's at Pine Belt Cadillac in Toms River, NJ in case some of you are looking for a V in that area, I think they have a couple more squirreled away somewhere.

In the instructions (pic 3) it describes the ride changes a little, sorry it was so blurry. I am going to keep the instructions when they are done so I'll get a clearer copy. Looks exactly like the stock suspension so I had to read the 1st page of the instructions for a bit before I could confirm they were FG2.

As a note: they DO use Nivomats in the back still, auto-leveling, but they are re-calibrated apparently.

Arg! Nivomats?! That's total BS, IMHO. Let us know if it helps. I hope it does.

Cal, did you get the reflash? I had the techs run it through the system this afternoon, and they only show the previous PI (preliminary info) was updated to a Bulletin. They show nothing else related to availability? Anyone?

    Ditto on the Nivomats.

Was hoping for something a little more performance branded than just retuned very stockish mono-tube shocks.

My '05 V order is coming with the FG2. Oh well, it is only money, right?

What are nivomats and why the complaints? (I'm assuming they are a replacement for shocks or struts)

    Remember air shocks?

The Nivomat is a similar sort of principle. It's a conventional shock absorber wrapped in a mechanism that uses suspension movement to 'pump up' the vehicle's ride height.

No, there is nothing officially in the system yet. Looks like the 27th date was off. The guy told me he would keep an eye and it takes 20-25 min tops so I will bring it back for that at a later date.
