I took a look at the clutch pedal and saw what looks to be the clutch pedal switch floating on the clutch pedal shaft. Is the switch supposed to ride up and down on the pedal shaft, or should it be attached to the firewall? Anyone else have this problem?? Hate to go to the dealer and risk having them wipe my custom tune out. Rather fix myself.
Thanks!! |

Dealer repaired under warranty. Computer thinks the clutch is always engaged due to the bad switch, which is why the cruise control will not work. I'd probably talk to your dealer to see if they would have to wipe your computer tune with the repair before trying to make this fix yourself. |

I then risk having my warranty voided. If the replacement of the clutch safety switch is not too expensive, I would rather do it myself and avoid the issue stated above.
Looked on alldata to see the procedure on changing the part, but they only show a diagram of the switch, not how it is oriented on the clutch shaft, i.e is the switch supposed to float on the shaft (as it is now) or should it be anchored at the firewall?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! |

No, not there. | | | Re: clutch pedal switch, code P0833 Even if they plug the Tech2 in to diagnose the clutch switch they're not going to see the rear sensors turned off- that's in a totally separate menu in the Tech2, and they wouldn't have any reason to go there.
The only thing that would wipe out a tune should be a reprogram of the PCM. Unless they're doing the oil temp bulletin or something else software related I don't see any reason the PCM would be reflashed.

| Tonyshow, promise?
Since I have to bring my car in for the rear diff recall, might as well have them fix the clutch pedal switch too.
Thanks to all who responded! |

There is a very little chance they will reflash your tune. When they replace the switch they will just clear the code, The dealership will not waste there time reprogramming the pcm. If you do it yourself, after you replace the swtich start up the car if it does not clear disconnect your battery 10 min then code will be should be gone. If that does not work get someone with the tech 2 to clear the code. To be honest l wouldn't even hesitate to take it to the Dealership if the tuner stayed within the parameters everything will be ok to them. As Tony stated there is no reason for them to do so |

Things must be different up here in Canada because l have GM Dealerships refering Customer to me to have there cars/trucks performance tuned. |

As Tony stated there is no reason for them to do so | Thanks for your input, I have a very nice data logger and scanner so clearing the codes is a piece of cake. With regards to the tune, I too am a tuner, however not with HP tuners or the LSx platform. I do quite nicely however with datamaster and tuner cat on my 92 lt1 corvette. Sadly, the dealers around NYC will go out of their way to void a warranty. I am not nearly as concerned about a tune re-flash as I am about the hassles of them attempting to void my warranty. Glad to hear that things are better up north. |

I like the GMT Tuner Software it alows me to do eveything from GM 1995-2008. Also l have the Ford Editing Software. For the older vehicales l use Tunercat and Williams. I allows thaught there was laws down there so you can modify your Cars in the USA. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
