While my car was at the dealer a few weeks ago for a water pump leak, they did the diff seal recall. As part of this recall, they changed out the
AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic 75w90 I had put in my diff shortly after I bought it and put in GM gear lube. The diff made awful noises, chattered, squeaked... couldn't stand it. I was gone last weekend, but finally had a chance to get the car up yesterday to put the AMSOIL gear lube back in (which totally quieted the diff chatter/squeal).
When I went to remove the diff fill plug, I found it totally lose and backed off about one turn. Not sure if it would have stayed there forever, or backed out entirely, but glad I don't have to find out.
Yet another experience reminding me why I hate to take my car to the dealer.
