Title release question for you

Remove this ad
Well I bought a replacement V from a private seller and he is telling me that GMAC told him that he will not get the title for 4-6 weeks? Does this sound right to anyone? I figured once his lien is paid in full they should release it right away. My problem is I dont think I can register the car with out the title and my credit union will want to see it also. Im lost here guys, any words of wisdom on this one?

Re: Title release question for you

Even if the private seller has a lien.. He should have a copy of the title. Not the original. Thats basically what we all have for those of us poor people that have not paid off our V's. The Private seller should be able sign that over to you and show it to your bank.

What? I did not have a title for my 05 and it had a small lien on it. This is really pissing me off that I put out the money for this car and now GMAC is dragging ass to get me a title.

Re: Title release question for you

I think there are lien release forms that need to be filed with the state (I think you're in PA), then a fresh title sent to the owner which I know used to take 4 - 6 weeks. PA has a new online system for select messengers that allows the transfers to be done much faster, resulting in titles being re-issued in less than a week. I am also pretty sure that you can't register the vehicle in PA without the title.

Call Wiggins Auto Tags tomorrow 610-692-5641 and they will have all of your answers.

EDIT: you could tell them that Tom told you to call, but they'd tell you the right answer anyway!

Re: Title release question for you

GMAC does everything besides accept payments SLOOOOW!
I can't stand the fact that whenever you call them for a simple question. They always tell you, they have to answer in writing. That's fine but tell me the answer over the phone until I get the damn letter!

Re: Title release question for you

Why don't you have your finance people talk to his finance people?

Title should go straight to your loan company anyway.

Re: Title release question for you

I just got my new to me 04 CTS and we are having a problem as they will not let us retitle it untill we get a hard letter from the old bank saying the lein was paid. We have a copy of a letter saying that but they want a hard copy. So we have to wait for that. So while you wait you might want to check with the DMV to make sure your state does not have any weird rules. In VA that is what we are fighting. Yet in NC it was never a problem.

In missouri with a copy of bill of sale and proof of insurance you can get temporary tags to be able to drive till your title goets to you.

Re: Title release question for you

Yeah, that's the thing, every state is different. Here in CT, I don't have the title, or a copy for that matter. In NY, even if there is a loan on the vehicle, the purchaser has the original title, weird. As others have mentioned, GMAC is extremely slow in their operations. But as Heavy stated, the title should just get sent to your credit union anyway. Again, depending on the laws of your state, you most likely will never see it.
