One of my buddys had to lemon his CTS-V b/c it seriously was a POS and I heard many horror stories about 04 and some build date 05, I can get my hands on an 04 for about $20,000. Are the 04's really that bad, I remember seeing a vid of a guy on youtube who recorded his CTS-V on a trip from I believe Atlanta to Miami and it broke down about 5 or 6 times. |

That You Tube crap is going to be the rash that won't go away.
The 04's are fine.
A used car that is lemoned is what it is though.....

My 04 has only minor hickups, like the current AC system message that it will have resolved today or tomorrow. The rear diff is still original and doesnt make a sound (knock on wood). The engine runs VERY strong and the interior is PERFECT. Its getting ready to clip 48,000 miles and I am very happy with my car. |

Can't ask for more that that. I've always found that there's more to a complaint than meets the eye. |

I love my '04. 38k miles, lots of mods and still going strong with only minor problems. The guy on YouTube ignored the check engine lights and warnings from OnStar to stop and just kept driving. The biggest problem with that car was the loose nut behind the wheel.

I have an 04 and have had more than my fair share of problems, but my dealer/service writer is good. As another post is stating, the service writer is the most important part, especially with a specialty high performance vehicle like the V.
Do a search on the forums, send some PMs to people in your area, find a good service writer. Just make sure you DO NOT buy a used lemon! They are out there and make up some of the lower priced V's on the market. The old saying is perfect here: buyer beware.
As with any enthusiast forum, there are going to be many more complaints/problems per capita than the rest of the population; its just a fact of life. I love the car so much that every little detail sticks out to me. Anyhow, enough of my rambling haha good luck on your search and purchase. Welcome to the forum! |

I have my '05 V going on 4 years and drive it every day (avoiding the snow days, of course.) Even though mine is an '05, it was built 5/27/04 since I wanted one of the first of the '05 models. And on a Monday to boot!
This car has been everything I thought it would be - fast, head-turning, reliable. I'm still trying to figure out what the "clunk" is I keep hearing about.
I'm on my original differential, my radio buttons are not flaking, the car is solid as a rock (including the sunroof) and rides like it's on rails. I change the oil every 5,000 - 6,000 miles and it uses maybe 1/2 quart between changes. Engine runs quiet and strong. The car still looks like it came out of the showroom yesterday. What else? Oh, yeah - could I afford an '09 V? Yep, but I'm going to keep this one until it (or me) won't go no more, that's how much I love it! |

All years for the V are fine, my preference is the '05 model year, as that was undeniably the best .
Regarding the youtube V, I believe he drove the car a couple of hundred miles with the engine light on, not sure of his specific problem, but no reason to drive a car when it has an obvious issue. I am willing to bet that if I had a Bug, as in Veyron, and the low oil pressure light came on, and I drove it for a few hundred miles, it would not be pretty.
All manufactureres experience buy backs, not a good sample unless you have all the figures. Drive the car, price it against others, buy the extended warranty and all will be good. |
