I am in southesat NY 70 north of NYC, and my V is a daily driver. With RSA's all season, but I haven't driven the V in more than 4 inchs of snow on the roads. It does get a bit weird(nothing out of the ordinary) when the temp hits single digits, but what car doesn't.... |

I drive my CTS-V everyday in Detroit area, it's my only car. I had it out embarassing pickups with Dunlop Wintersport M3s over New Years day where I think we got 14" of snow in 2 days. |

That would be a riot seeing that out on the street eating up cars with snow tires on it

Race car would not have quite the ground clearance for that, and without windows it would get pretty cold. |

The V was my only car for almost 4 years. But I didn't rely on it to get to work: I take the train to work in NYC. I did drive frequently on weekends to Lake George NY which is 200 miles north of NYC and gets lots of snow. I too got the Dunlop Wintersport tires. I managed to get through 3 winters with these tires but driving the V in the snow is not fun, it is work. More than 3 inches of snow and it does not feel safe, even with snow tires. My driveway is a small hill and it was almost impossible to get up it after it was plowed and the remaining snow turned icy. If you must drive to work, and will only have one car, I do not recommend the V for you. Its an awesome car, in fact the best I ever owned. But it is not one I would want to have to rely on for winter transport. My advice to you is to get the V and an old beater Jeep for $1000 for snow days. If you absoluely will not get a second car, then get an Audi S4 or BMW 335xi which are both great cars. |

| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic | | | | | Re: Who drives their ctsv daily in a northern area? I couldn't agree less with Vdenaline. The V is a perfectly suitable car for winter driving when equipped with proper tires. I have driven mine through 3 Minnesota winters with ease. Don't be afraid of using it as a year around vehicle. |

I think some winter tires aren't equal with others. My IceBears are the Shizzle. I was stopped dead in my tracks with my All seasons in 1/4 inch of snow. I have driven through 2 blizzards now and it drives great. Havn't been scared once. |

But I drove mustang GT's year-round in the Boston/metrowest area for a number of years. A good set of snow tires (for the mustang I was able to get a skinny set of tires and rims;maybe not possible for the V) and 100 pound of lead shot in the spare tire well...and i could go anywhere that any other 2wd car could (front or rear wheel drive).
The V can be able to be set up to be just as capable in the snow. The question is....do you want the trouble and expense to do so.... |

Snow and ice tires are absolutely required. The later V's come with an F1 that claims to be "All Season". Absolutely not true. While the tread pattern can tolerate a "trace" of snow, the tires are as hard as wagon wheels in the tru northern cold. In 6 below weather, mine never warmed up even after 5 miles of driving. In the teens I could baby them thru by dropping tire pressure way down and babying them the first few miles until they warmed up and grabbed a little. ANd of course adding weight in the trunk.
Hands down do not debate it - get great winter tires. |

(and was clean for all of a day)
I have Blizzak LM22s. They are usable but not fantastic...

I'll tell you what - it's been a banner year for snow in New England. Over the last 10 years I've always had this strange feeling that we got WAY more snow when I was a kid, but I could never tell if it was just me misremembering or global warming or what. Like my brother hasn't been able to use his snowmobiles more than a couple weekends a year for the last 4 years and last year he didn't get to use them at all!
But this year seems to be what I remembered - we get a good storm every couple weeks, and it's enough snow to bring the kids sledding until the next storm. Aside from a couple ridiculously warm periods, it's been a good New England winter, and even though the V isn't very good in it, I definitely prefer this kind of winter to one where it's cold out but there's no snow to play in!

PS: Driving out to the store with my kids and girlfriend last Saturday, I turn to my 7 year old boy and ask him "Hey, wanna go do some donuts in the work parking lot?"
He's like "sure" without even looking up from Lego Starwars on his Nintendo DS.
So we go over to work where the parking lot is all covered in sand from the snowstorms we've had, switch to competitive driving mode, and start drifting around the parking lot.
The construction guy driving the payloader on one end of the parking lot stops working and just watches for a bit - probably wondering why the hell someone with a carload of people would just drive into an empty parking lot, do some donuts, drift around the snowbanks, and then leave.
When I do my final spin and drift back out onto the road, my son looks up from his game and says "I thought we were getting donuts?!?"
