I just put my kooks on the car and they went on without a hitch. The flanges were straight after the exchange and they bolted down flush and straight. The cats were tig welded on the magnaflow and everything was bolted down.
The car was started and I started to notice a clicking/ticking/chaffing sound that originated from the left side header. The sound is pretty much during the low rpms through each gear which leads me to think that I am dealing with an exhaust leak. I have taken the car in again and put it up on a lift and looked for leaks but found none.
It is def. the left header and it is def. not coming from the flange. I have looked and cannot find anywhere the leak could be coming from short of the collector where all the primaries run into where I couldn't actually see. To me it def. sounds like a exhaust leak b/c it kinda "chugs" during really low rpm's
My mechanic is telling me that it could be the injectors pulsing or maybe even the thinness of the new stainless headers that are resonating the sound, I dont really buy this though. Why, then I ask, would it only be on the left side then?
I'm really starting to get put off by this whole damn thing... |

If your not throwing any codes, drive it for awhile.
Welcome to MOD HELL.

Welcome to MOD HELL. | lol.
No codes...
......just a little bogging sometimes in 1st on takeoff if rpms are too low...
Looks like it times for a StealthV tune = )

I can only hear it if I have a window rolled down.
I have a feeling it's the normal sound of headers.

I'm inclined to think mine's a warped header flange after reading all the people who have this problem, but I can't pinpoint the leak even on a lift.
Question: Does yours make a "clacking" sound under wide open throttle? When I hit 4k under WOT, I get a lovely "bbbbbRRRRRRRRRRRRR RAT TAT TAT TAT TAT TAT" noise. It sounds like a damn dragster running open headers.

While the engine is still cold squirt the header with some soapy water while it's running. Not sure if this would work or not but I would try it as a last ditch effort.
Make sure and spray the welds as we as the interface between the headers and the heads. |

If there making any noise I never noticed. I need to ride in a car with somone that has the Kooks headers to see if there is a difference. |

Bank 2, sensor 1, o2 sim. The car is bogging down real bad in 1st sometimes and then backfires.
WTF!!!
I cleaned the flanges and the side of the engine so I can drive around a little and look for any soot that may be escaping from a leak. I couldnt find any leaks even when I examined the engine cold.

There could be a crap weld on the collector on the inside and it could be leaking and I would never be able to see it.. This is where I think I am getting the leak from.
My car is pretty quiet except it sounds like a tractor at real low rpms.. My magnaflow is a pretty mellow low tone. |

Assuming you did install gaskets with the headers (you did, didn't you?), and you've checked out the flange real well, I think the collector is highly suspicious as you and others have already mentioned.
What a pain in the butt! Hope you get this resolved, 'cause you're gonna love 'em.

lol. Yea I installed them.
Question is.. Why am I throwing a code? |

My first suggestion is get the rear sensors turned off. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
