Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

The '08 style ones are much nicer and don't have nearly the problems... they cost a bit more though.

Same here...no problems prior but I took it in anyway for the recall. So far so good.

Is that just because they are newer and haven't been beat down as much? Are they the best replacement to get (besides aftermarket)? Aren't the 08 models the same as if you order a new differential replacement? Or do they have different part #'s???

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

Same shape and fit, but they made a few changes. They don't seem to come back as much as the older design.

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

Is there a different part # for the 08 models compared to if you just buy a regular old replacement diff??

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

There is a difference between the '08 model and the '08 style.
The main difference between the last update and the '08 style is the pinion plate. The seal is different.
I cannot confirm it but I think they made some case changes too. They don't look much different except for the front.

The '08 Model CTS diff is drastically different than the previous units, it has different mounting points and other case changes.
The reason I call it the '08 style is that the TSB that came out first identified the changes as an '08 redesign for the differential.

Clear as mud?

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

Soooo, the CTS-V '08 model differential is different than the base CTS '08 differential?? (besides gears)
I guess what I am looking for is a part number to the "good" CTS-V diff and to see if I can find one for an "upgrade"

Figures GM would change the CTS diff and not the V diff ha

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

Well there is no '08 CTS-V, but the base CTS has a new design rear cradle and diff that I am sure will carry over into the '09 with the new body style.
The part number for the "new" style diff is: 25873498
List price is: $1,922.96
I think we have them in stock.

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

I know there's no 08 V's, I just figured that maybe they changed the replacement diff setup in '08 or something. My bad, I must've read your post wrong. Thanks for the part # man!!
