I see the recall is from 05 and newer, well my car is a 04 with a 05 diff how should I go about getting
a new seal? It's a leaker. No recall notice recieved. Is there a contact person at GM for something like this.
Thanks.

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

I have an 05 that was built in late 04. My diff don't leak, it hasn't exploded and it's not subject to the recall.

Here I thought it was because I don't have a sunroof.

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

If the seal is not covered by the recall and it needs replaced then you'll have to pay for it.
Not sure how much the kit is, probably not cheap since it comes with a new yoke.

Your dealer might take pity on you and do a "Goodwill", but I wouldn't count on that.

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

Just had my 05 CTS in for this very issue. Not covered by recall and its out of warranty!! Just got off the phone with Cadillac and had them open a case for this. Anybody had any luck getting them to cover repairs?

Cool Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

I'm confused - is this an actual recall or merely a TSB? It's now July and I have not received a recall notice, although I'm not having a problem - mine is bone dry.

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

What if a 2004 V got the diff replaced (for noise or broken or whatever) with a newer diff (from 2005 and up) and THAT diff needed the recall?? How can they go by the VIN # for the recall?? Shouldn't they go by the diff part #??

Re: Rear axle pinion seal recall

Honestly... you'd have to take the original car in, have the work done, then do the swap.
I am familiar with this situation and if the VIN on your car isn't subject to the recall, GM won't do it.
They don't have any way to track the recall by the diff part number. The issue is production date of the seal and the production date of the car it is in.
The diff part numbers will be the same even though suspect parts were used for only a particular time period.
They'd have to go by production date on the actual diff and they just won't go to that much trouble.

Get me the last 8 and I'll double check but if they ran the VIS and it didn't show up you are SOL.
If the seal is not leaking then don't worry about it.
The bulletin for using the updated seal applies to cars that don't fall under the recall, but in your situation it would be an out of pocket repair.
