opened cap, acordian thingy came out with it. Seemed pretty much just a hair over the fill line, put everything back in and tightend it up.

it looked pretty dirty in there tho.

Oh, I'll remember you, alright. And I will pull you over. But only to say "hi" and take one more look at the baddest Caddy I've ever had the pleasure to see. Actually, it's one of the baddest street driven cars I've ever seen, Caddy or otherwise. You have a great Christmas and New Years, too and remember, I drive an unmarked car, so you never know if I'm behind you.....

This is where you can get the Remote Clutch Bleeder, mentioned as an alternative in that article:

http://www.thelapd.com/index.php?mai...nlu549nnjb60l3

It's the one I just had installed when my clutch was done.

Re: How do i check the clutch fluid reservoir (and how would i possibly add to it)

faylix,
Don't worry about the dark color of the fluid in the reservoir. All CTS-Vs do this. The fluid turns dark shortly after it is installed at the factory, but there is nothing wrong with it. Some people attribute the darkening to leaching of color from the rubber hose connecting the reservoir to the clutch.

Do not use blinker fluid, as this will cause the clutch to work intermittently.

Re: How do i check the clutch fluid reservoir (and how would i possibly add to it)

Sorry to dig up an old one. I just checked my clutch fluid level and it was almost empty. It also had some gel on the accordian baffle and in the res. The clutch pedal had a little lighter feeling but it still worked. Cleaned it with a lint free shop towel and got the gel out. Filled with the new Motul RBF660 and pumped to get the air out of the line. Good as new.

Re: How do i check the clutch fluid reservoir (and how would i possibly add to it)

The question of DOT 4 vs. DOT 3 brake fluid for the clutch has come up before, and is the result of the fact that, as indicated by some other posters, the older standard CTS has a line from the brake master cylinder to the clutch. In that case, the brake fluid and the clutch are the same and are both DOT 3. However, the CTS-V uses a separate clutch fluid system, and DOT 4 fluid is specified for the clutch while DOT 3 is specified for the brakes.

You can use DOT 4 Throughout. Anything that says DOT3, can take DOT 4 as well. You run into issues with DOT 5, but #4 are both compatible.

Re: How do i check the clutch fluid reservoir (and how would i possibly add to it)

trukk,
I will not use DOT 4 brake fluid in the brake system, because that is not what is specified and that is not what appears on MC reservoir cap. The owner's manual for the CTS-V specifies DOT 4 for the clutch. You can mix and match if you wish. I plan to stick with the manufacturer's recommendation.

So are you keeping your car stock as well?
With your logic, I don't see how you could ever justify any mods.

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with staying stock.
I almost admire the will power of those who do.
I really miss my stock V.
