    Has anyone experienced this:
Small loss of coolant along with antifreeze smell inside cabin.

It is almost certainly a bad heater core. The last one I had to replace wa in a GM truck, and it was a complete PITA but I got it done. It's usually in an akward and tight space beneath the dash. I'm sure it would be easier to do with the dash off but that was too much for me to try.
The above post is my 2 cents....nothing more.

Tom, hard to believe it has been 2 years since I talked to you at Grattan with Audi Club! Didn't make it to any Mich tracks this year but did get 20 track days in. I should be making the 3 track your in 08.

Take a flash light and check the belly pan under the radiator as they been know to leak in early models, unless you have had your replaced.

    Keep in touch.

Right, and back again. Some of us have had two V's. Got another project V when I wear out the current one.

    Re: Leaking coolant and smell

Make sure it's actually the heater core, there was a problem with the bottom radiator hose connection on the '04s that's a known problem. Just had my radiator replaced under warranty for this - the first time they looked at it, they actually thought it was a "misrouted hose", and then when they were replacing my engine mount they realized it was the radiator outlet separating from the tank.
I noticed the leak after a day at the strip so I assumed it was something bad, but it was probably just from the engine torquing over with my blown motor mounts. I could see some coolant on the plastic under the front, and the usual smell inside the car. Just cuz you smell it in the car doesn't necessarily mean it's the heater core, you might just be pulling that smell in through the cabin filter.
