    Cal,

Your guy with the 9 second Z06 might do pretty well at One Lap. The guy that won last year had a Z06 with a C5R 427 motor with nitrous. That is the beauty of this event. Anyone can enter and the rule book is pretty loose for mod's (except for safety which is pretty strict).

Keep in mind that both the car and driver need to be able to do many things well in addition to enduring the round trip to all of the events and back. Where one car shines in the drag race, it may not do so well in the road race events and vice versa. The car also needs to be driven to each event with little to no time for any repairs. Think of it as a sort of pentathalon for automobiles and drivers while. Some compromizes are made to try to acheive high scores in all events but they may sacrafice ultimate superiority in a single event.

Seems like nothing has really changed since the old days when winning was about, .....'Stuff it full of all the power ya got, and the guy in the seat has to have quick feet and the abilities of a concert piano player' Get it all to the ground and GO!

    Re: One Lap of America

    Bit of an update....

The CTS-V that John Bender is driving has Mallet Motorsports engine that is lightly warmed over....LOL..and a more open exhaust. It also has bigger, stickier tires and some suspension part replacements with Mallet parts.

The other CTS-V that is driven by Reg Noble is pretty much stock except for a Corsa eshaust and stickier tires.

The wet skid pad is more a function of the tires than anything.....

Keep in mind that neither of these guys are doing 5000 RPM clutch drops at the dragstrip for minimum times. They have to keep the car together for a week of this. The consistency is the main thing for them.

The Reg Noble car lost a low tire pressure sensor somewhere in the process and has a low tire pressure alarm that they cannot defeat...so...it is preventing them from entering into the "competition mode" for the chassis/ABS/stability/traction control systems which handicaps them a bit for the moment. We're trying to get that fixed.... Don't know what happened to the tire pressure sensor but it sounded like it might have been lost at the tire change/upgrade.

Check out http://teamls.blogspot.com/ for an update on the sucess of Team Lincoln LS.
Did they not test the car at an racetrack? Obviously, they have not been at the Nurburgring.
I am only a bit because they started it.

    http://www.mallettcars.com/

    info for our ctsv fans

im wondering if the added power messed things up for the Vs , im wondering how balanced the thing was to start with , with extra ponys on tap i bet everything has a little "traction limited" note to it . seems gm did a damned good job balanceing it but it looks like maybe adding power screws up all gm's hard work

the evo looks hard to beat , perhaps a warmed up awd 06 sts would be the idea to go for ?

when i get the typhoon ive always wanted i think ill try to enter with a couple of my old military buddys

    Re: One Lap of America

Bracket racing is about consistancy. You could win with a chevy vega.

As far as the drag times, these guys either sat at the light or wasted the tires on the starting line. (easy to do with a V). You would need the t slips to see what they really did.

Only Round Five was bracket racing.

Maybe they didn't want to flail on their cars so early in the competition (it is partially an endurance race)? Those quarter mile times suck, especially considering the added horsepower.

Whoever is driving those Vs should go back to Skip Barber. I'm sorry but some of the vehicles finishing above them should not hold a candle to a stock V, much less one with a little work into it.

    Re: One Lap of America

How many laps did they do at Sears (and which configuration of the track) to get those times?

That's the track I'm most familiar with on this tour, and have driven my V on already (just warm laps tho).

Curiousity...unfortunately I had to be at work yesterday and couldn't make it out to see what the scoop was for myself.

PEBWAS = Problem Exists Between Wheel and Seat.

Both the CTS-V's are being driven by pretty capable drivers. Unfortunately, both of them have been severely hampered by the inability to get into the "competition mode" due to low tire pressure warning sensor failures.....both vehicles were "fitted" with other wheels and tires so it is hard to know what caused the failures. That problem has been circumvented to some extend for the LasVegas rounds by disconnecthing the RKE module under the rear seat on the cars so as to defeat the false low tire pressure warnings......

About the only shortcoming really on the cars going into this was the lack of test time on the cars in the OneLap configuration that they decided to use. They probably would have been better off to just leave them alone and run them stock....LOL.

    Re: One Lap of America

with the teething issues there haveing why not go back to stock wheels and upgraded tires ?

in inability to get into comp mode explans alot tho . i guess stabilitrack and tract ctl and abs are getting way to involoved here ? seems in corvettes with comp mode on they run faster lap times when the driver is allowed to use throttle to get the car to turn , perhaps the same with the V?

    Re: One Lap of America

Yes, not being able to get into the comp mode was really slowing them down.

Both cars were driven to the start of the OneLap from several hundred miles away so the stock hardware is nowhere nearby once they left home. They were unaware of the problems until the event unfolded.....
