This P.O.S. design is a joke! I bought this car 3 days ago with 59k miles on it. I'm 40 years old and I'm takin my old man for the maiden voyage , BANG!! and the pieces flew in my rearview mirror. I seriously laughed my a$$ off at how poorly this diff is designed (seriously bad). I expected my gears and fluid to eject like in my Grand National, but, to my surprise it still drove!! It was THE HOUSING that broke from the pinion support location. Now I know this is probably a broken record to you guys, but hey I manned the f%#k up and bought a diff from a local performance salvage yard for 500 bucks (I hope thats fair, I thought so). I will be back in two days to pick dad up and restore my attempt. Now the question... BMR, KARS, CRYO-DIPPING??? What is gonna significantly reduce my chances of this situation again? I'm not a p%$$y, I'll spend for the right stuff, this car ROCKS A$$!! |

Under warranty is the way I go and there is a lot of companies that can put a warranty on it to 100k for a fair price. I wish I had the balls to start MOD HELL but I have not. I just break it, take it to the dealership and say fix it. I bought the car to stop turning wreches but I will after 2011 or 70 more K whichever comes first. Good luck and let me know how bad the diff swap is. |

What a joke Be a pioneer and get someone to make you a cast iron case exactly the same shape as the stock aluminum one. I've been saying for years that this would work, but nobody's tried it.

I have put out requests to casting companies here and in Taiwan.
bottom line:
Reverse eng of current housing - $2k.
Comittment for 50 pcs min from a vendor about $400@
This is just for a cast iron housing.

What a joke You might have just started something there. I'm friends with an aluminum casting foundry owner here in Cleveland, Ohio that makes the Summit turbo 400 and turbo 350 trans pans. I'm on it tomorrow! |

What a joke Any high performance vehicle with extensive mileage is prone to things snapping; probably why they are difficult to sell.......These incidents can happen to any high mileage car. I just bought my son a high mileage Audi TT Quattro and he snapped one of the half-shafts..... |

It took 1 1/2 bad launches to grenade diff #1. I have 6 track days and 3 autocrosses and another 33k miles on diff #2. Diff #2 has been louder than diff #1 ever was. And it's still going. My conclusion?
If you value your diff, stay away from hard launches. A bit irritating but that should do it.

If it is the older unit (2004 & 2005 OEM) you are likely to be disappointed, later. The older units have the history of coming apart.
The newer units are not prone to coming apart, but have the reputation of becoming noisy, but nonetheless functional. Whether the noise level is tolerable is another issue between dealers and V owners. |

I have sent a diff to UUC for them to look into a cast iron case or maybe even a magnesium one. this has been in the talking about phase for a while between them and myself, now its in the looking at phase. this literally just happend last week so there is no further info yet (and wont be for a while) but I will keep everyone up to date.
