Annoying noise 45mph to 55mph

Remove this ad
I been to the dealer several times for this issues and they keep telling me that its running to factory spec. I get a humming noise or whining noise when driving at 45 to 55 mph while applying light throttle. No throttle I don't hear anything and full throttle it won't hear anything since the engine over powers the noise. Its very irritating when trying to drive at a consistent speed and listening to that noise. If anyone has any ideas please feel free to let me know.

Re: Annoying noise 45mph to 55mph

My guess is the 3.73 gears. I can hear a little gear whine from my car in the same mph range.

I have 4.10s in my C5 and the whine is a little louder than on my V and is most noticeable around the same mph range.

Take the trunk liner out and Dynamat it. Some people have success with changing the fluid in the gears, but it always comes back.

I have the same exact noise, its our differential...eventually it will get so bad that the dealer will hear it or it will blow up!

Mine did the same (38k on a 05). It was the rear end. Dealer replaced it with an 06/07 version. Hum be gone.

Bingo!

As it gets worse, the range of speeds that you'll hear it will widen.

If you're on warranty still, dealer should replace it with no questions asked ... ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTIONS ASKED! If they resist, go to another dealer.

Re: Annoying noise 45mph to 55mph

Eh... my base CTS did it for 30K miles. The V has had the whine for 35K miles. I always know when I'm going 43 - 45 mph. Haven't replaced a diff yet.

The question might be... were they replaced with an 04/05 version, or an 06/07 version? They are visually different (there is a comparison picture somewhere on the threads).

I'm not sure, but it seems like most of the dying rears are the older one. I could be wrong. I wonder if anyone has done a poll on that question.

Re: Annoying noise 45mph to 55mph

My rear end whines some, I rub a little Desitin on it and it goes away.

Re: Annoying noise 45mph to 55mph

if the camaro could do that, I think it would cost significantly more than $200k
