I just picked up a 2004 V from Ford of Frankfurt in IL and drove it home to Michigan. Initially I was happy thinking I got a good deal ($27,950.00). It has 33,400 miles. But on my 4 hour drive home I began to notice a whining noise that was so loud it was competing with the engine. Is this the dreaded rear end problem that so many of you are writing about? Now I'm sick to my stomach because I may be stuck with a car with a bad rear end. People are getting mixed results when trying to get the dealer to replace it under warranty. How much is it and where can I find a good dealer? BTW, I'm in southeast Michigan. I averaged 26.8 mpg on my trip, so I was encouraged by that, but that noise coming from my back seat has got me worried.

Most times you have 72 hours to nix the deal.
If your gonna gripe about it now, back out of the deal and keep looking.

Get on the gas a little,,,the exhaust should drown out the noise

-Jimmy | Where in SE MI? I had my diff replaced at Superior in Flint and didn't have any problems. I believe Rand49er had his done at Massey. |

And, don't worry ... once you get that new diff, the whining will stop and all those second thoughts will be history.

I am about 25 miles away from frankfurt. If you are interested check the classifieds. |

Tell them to replace the diff due to the whine or take the car back, either way you win. No worries. |

2. Also, see if you can get GM to repair it.
3. Go with GM repair; Ford might take short cut on parts. |

The dealer where I bought it is 255 miles away, so I think I will check out Massey first. I already have an issue with the finance guy at the Ford dealer so I very well may go back. I love the car otherwise. Hope I can get it worked out. Can anyone here check my VIN to see if the previous owner tried to handle the matter? 1G6DN57S540158205

Don't even think about Hoot McInerney, they have the worst service ever. I called Rinke before I went to Gooley and they sounded pretty good. Based on where you live you can't go wrong with the Don's (Massey or Gooley).
Even with the whine I loved the car. Just get a Corsa or B&B exhaust and hammer the pedal and enjoy. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
