I read in the FAQ that it takes 5-6 Qts... I want to know what the "official" number is...
If anyone has their oil changed at the dealer, what I'm really after here is, how many QT's do they charge for?
The original dealer I went to charged for 5 and the oil change was $56.68, which I can stomach for Mobil 1 and all...
Today, new dealer, 8 QT's and $79.89
Time to go back and have a "discussion" with them. I would like a little "ammo" from my friends on the forum as to what they have experienced in Dealer Oil Changes... Please... No Thread bashing for having the dealer change the oil... I am only doing this for documentation/history/records for warranty purposes.. |

My dealer, which I also use for absolute documentation purposes, charges 8 quarts, but shows a gross unit price of $8.37 reduced to a "net" of $6.00. This results a $48.00 charge for the oil itself. In the overall scheme of things, I do not consider this all that bad. I suspect, but do not know, that many dealers buy their popular oils in bulk containers and do not know with absolute precision how many quarts their dispensing. |

Come to find out the tech put almost 8 quarts of oil in my car thinking it was some different 8 cyl Cadillac engine. Needless to say the dealership had the car back the next day and performed a 2nd oil change. This time they used and charged for 6 quarts as they had the 4 previous ones. I watch each one like a hawk now. |

If you're going to be so anal about an oil change, DO IT YOURSELF. Besides being cheaper and EASY, you know exactly how much and what it is that is going into your engine. |

Finally, there is a $4.50 environmental disposal charge and sales tax. The total is $120.00. |

It has NOTHING to do with being anal about my oil changes
1) I get it done at the dealership so if anything goes wrong with the motor, they have all the oil changes documented for warranty purposes. They can't say "Well, you threw a rod 'cuz you never changed the oil" or some B.S. like that... (Once the warranty is up, I do 'em myself )
2) It has to do with not being anally raped on what I'm charged... if you went to the gas station and bought 15 gallons of gas, would you be OK with paying for 20 gallons? If so, kudo's to you...
FYI, I do change the oil on my other 2 cars and my bike... so... Thank's for your input |

I've been putting in 6 qts even each time, and it shows right in the middle of the cross-hatched area on the dipstick. When I change it at between 3.5-4k miles, it's still at that same level. I suppose I'm okay, though, since the extra half qt would be most beneficial for cooling if I was tracking or something ... which I'm not.
6.5 qts is gonna screw up the six-quart-case routine I do at Costco.
