Tried turtle wax 'Ice'.....

.....what junk, I don't see what everyone is ranting and raving about. It goes on and off easy, but if it doesn't do anything then who cares?? I saw no difference in shine, and the parts of my car that I didn't use the stuff on is smoother than where I used the Ice......I guess I'll just be sticking to zaino, liquid glass and nu-finish.....those have been the best for me.....did I do something wrong with this stuff? I applied, let it haze and wiped it off....anyone care to chime in?

When I did my last set of pics. I said the same thing! Paste wax is so much better IMO.

Re: Tried turtle wax 'Ice'.....

FWIW, I haven't heard any stories of users liking the new Turtle Wax "Ice". It's definitely been hyped up, but no one I've talked to likes it at all.

Re: Tried turtle wax 'Ice'.....

I tried a couple turtle wax products years ago and was not happy with them. Since then, I always use Meguires.

Lately I have been using their yellow wax#26 I think. First I clay, than I put the wax on with an orbital, and take it off by hand. I havent done the V yet though. The V has some swirls I need to buff out. I was going to try using swirl remover with the orbital.

Re: Tried turtle wax 'Ice'.....

I was a big Zaino proponent a few years ago but stopped using it as I was looking for a product that could simplify the process and last longer...

...and I think I've found it.

Meguiar's #21, Synthetic Sealant is my new best friend. It applies and rubs off easily, you won't make a big mess if you go overboard with it, the product lasts longer and it's a bit heavier, so you get a darker, richer look. For guys with black cars, it does have some fillers in it so fine swirls will disappear after application.

If your going to use a Meguiar's polish to buff the swirls out I dont think the orbital will have enough power to break down the abrasives. They use what is called a diminishing abrasive which continually breaks down as you polish.

I to used to use the Zaino and switched to the #21. I love it and it is much easier to use. I did a major detail on my V over Memorial weekend buffing and polishing removing the swirls and topped with #21 and it looked great. A couple weeks later I put a coat of Meguiar's paste wax on and wow.. I will have to wait and see how long it lasts..

Re: Tried turtle wax 'Ice'.....

Where are you guys picking up the meguires?? And how many months does it seem to last? I know two coats of nu-finish will last me a LONG time...zaino will get me ~3-4 months...and liquid glass roughly the same, only it stays smoother a little longer....but I'll try meguires, what the hey.

Re: Tried turtle wax 'Ice'.....

When i wax my car, the wax stays for a long time. (My car goes not see sunlight that much) It's an night car. You can't tell how good a wax is by how long it lasts.... BECAUSE if you leave your car in the sun it will eat that wax right off. Check by the beads and the shine.

I get my supplies at http://www.autodetailingsolutions.com/

I know around here I have also found Meguiar's pro line at NAPA and ORielly's.

I would also clay before applying the #21. You can pick up a clay kit at just about any auto parts store. Just follow the directions and be amazed. I have used both the Mothers brand and the Meguiar's, bot are good. You get two pieces of clay with the Meguiars. If you drop it on the ground throw it away, it turns into sandpaper.

There are alot of good products out there and most waxes, polishes, sealers will do a good job. It is the prep work before the application that gives it the look. It takes more than a coat of wax to make a bad finish look good.

Here are some pics of my V with #21 after alot of work.

WHAT?? How long a wax lasts IS one of the main ways to tell how good a wax is! Especially if you are looking for a durable wax.

You should top the #21 with a nice wax! If youre into Meguiars, try #26. That great looking black will look even wetter!
