Pulling trigger on Extended Warranty...Help.

Remove this ad
Read some posts that mentioned extended warranties, but now I am getting way to close to the price jumping $800 (about to pass 24,000 miles and my warranty is up July 31st).

GMPP sounds like the best bang for buck extended warranty (from the guys on this forum that actually work or have worked at Cadillac service), but my dealer is trying to sell me a "Hendrick" extended warranty that they say is better than GMPP (and of course, more expensive). I am looking at 36mo/60,000 mile extension from GMPP, which is right around $1,200 (from this link... http://www.gmoutlet.com/quote/emails...uard/07mg6.htm) but they are trying to charge $1,800 for 36mo/54,000 miles for a "Hendrick" ext warranty (read: large dealer warranty). $100 deductible...service advisor says anything over a $100 can match the work that is being done to the car..making the ext. warranty not very valuable.

I am right under 24,000 miles right now and need a little help calling the ball on this purchase. Thanks for any advice. James or Will to the rescue?

Comparison chart for 3 levels of GMPP...MG or Major Guard level preferred.

Re: Pulling trigger on Extended Warranty...Help.

going to find out more about the company behind the dealer's extended warranty....but then again, I'll still probably go with GMPP. Any other advice from folks....

GMPP is the right choice. You also have, by far, the least expensive GMPP in www.gmoutlet.com. I've recommended them to more than a dozen people. Ironically, I didn't buy from them--showed the quote to my local dealer and he actually beat it.

I just went through the same thing. My dealer wanted $3000.00 for theirs though. Get the GMPP and then you don't have to worry about taking the car back to Hendrick if you move or something.

I stay miles away from aftermarket warranties. Too many bankruptcies and fine print, allowing surprising exclusions.

Re: Pulling trigger on Extended Warranty...Help.

If the dealer is trying to get you to buy the 'other than GM warranty' then I would go to another dealer and tell him to go f himself! The after market warranties are nothing but scams and or scumbag companies and the profit is higher on the 'JUNK' warranties!

Re: Pulling trigger on Extended Warranty...Help.

Heavy- go with the GMPP. No one, I repeat- NO ONE will give you better coverage than the people who built the car.

With a GMPP, the dealer finds the problem, orders the parts and does the work. With any other company, the dealer tears your car apart, finds what the problem is, and then- BOOM - work stops. A call to the warranty company is made, and the dealer sits on their thumbs until the warranty company's adjuster gets there and decides if he agrees with the tech. If he does, then the parts get ordered.

Some warranty companies also require you to pay for towing and repairs, then send them the bill to be reimbursed.

These two issues only scratch the surface of expressing my hatred for aftermarket warranties. Get the GMPP.
