I want my car to be quiet, have dynamat, quick question

Remove this ad
So i have some dynamat extreme laying around somewhere. How hard is it to do yourself? How easy is it to break the sh!t plastic trim when disassembling the interior? I want to do the entire floor. Can I do that myself or should I have it professionally done? And if so...... can anyone suggest a place in Pennsylvania that you would trust to do such a task. When my car is quiet I will be completely in love with it now that my shifter is smooth as urbanskis bottom.

Re: I want my car to be quiet, have dynamat, quick question

I just found that I only have 36 square feet of the Dynamat Extreme, so I'll be ordering 100 more square feet of Second Skin Overkill Pro. I've already broken the under steering wheel dash thing by trying to remove it so I'm going to try to find a pro... I'm sure there is someone in PA that I can find.

I would hate to test their competence on this, particularly since I wouldn't be able to readily check the quality of their work. I was considering asking them to either call me to take a look at their work before they reinstalled the trim or to take extensive pictures of their work. I'll probably end up doing that.

Re: I want my car to be quiet, have dynamat, quick question

Does anyone know if you can remove the A pillar trim since there is an airbag lodged in there?

Re: I want my car to be quiet, have dynamat, quick question

Check with your fellow Pitt mates and find a good stereo shop. Any good shop WILL have extensive experience with sound deadening since any good system needs sound deadening.

Re: I want my car to be quiet, have dynamat, quick question

It doesn't take a "professional" to put on dynamat.

Step 1: cut to fit
Step 2: Remove backing
Step 3: Put it on the surface you want to deaden
Step 4: If its now sticking to your hands you have it backwards and should honestly consider selling the V and getting a bus pass.
Step 5: Use a small roller and work it on from the center out.

The only time this stuff gets tricky is if you are going upside down like on the backside of the roof skin, be sure to use only high quality stuff like Dynamat there or it will pull off as soon as the summer heat hits.

Re: I want my car to be quiet, have dynamat, quick question

A pillar removal is VERY easy...

remove the Airbag plastic tab with a small flathead screwdriver (careful not to break the tabs) and use a screwdriver to remove the screw behind it (the rear one requires a nut driver, but I think the front is a screwdriver)

Re: I want my car to be quiet, have dynamat, quick question

You mean like this. Very time consuming but worth it. My car is done from the firewall to the trunk with all four doors done. Super quiet now.

How about I just deafen myself with dynamite, problem solved! Good thinking GMBOUND. If you want to make your cars faster, don't waste money on buying engine modifications, buy a bunch of rocket engines and strap them on the back of the car. Problem solved.
