Question UUC/Lindsay Bushing Install

Remove this ad
Having a Magnaflow installed tomorrow and plan on doing the B&M with UUC/Lindsay bushings this weekend on my own.

I plan on doing the installation “from the top” except for the one shift linkage bolt that attaches to the bottom of the new shaft.

I hope that this isn’t a stupid question but…I’ve read up on the difficulty of the UUC/Lindsay bushing installation and I’m confused by one thing…on the factory set up, the base (thickest part) of the bushing is towards the back of the assembly (see attached pictures).

Is this how the UUC/Lindsay bushings should also be installed? If so, it looks nearly impossible given the limited room to work with between the shifter “plate” and the steel “C” that holds/wraps around the bushing. Do you slip the bushings in at an angle so the base is facing the back of the car or do you install the UUC/Lindsay bushings with the “base” of the bushing facing toward the front of the car?

I hope that I’ve explained myself well enough for some replies. Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Re: UUC/Lindsay Bushing Install

Hmmmm........

Mine must have been obvious when I did the install. Cause I can't remember thinking about it at the time.

Don't chamfer the new bushings. Grease em up good and use the leverage of a the plastic handles on a pair of channel locks (8" or so).

They'll go on just fine.

Good luck.

Re: UUC/Lindsay Bushing Install

The base goes towards the back as in the picture. It is a little tight, but you can install them from the top. Remove your console first!

Re: UUC/Lindsay Bushing Install

Take the console off, then remove that black plate around the shifter opening for more room.
When you take the 2 bolts out and remove the cover you'll see that mounting plate that wraps around the bushings slides forward and off of the bushings.
You can remove it from the shifter completely.

Open the bushings, slide them on and put the slits at 12 o'clock, lube the outer surfaces of the bushings and then slip the plate back into place, pry a little bit with a tool and the plate slips over the bushings. It can be really hard because the bushings are tight inside that plate.

Yes the thick ring on the bushing goes towards the shifter plate where the shifter itself is mounted just like the factory orientation.
Once the retainer plate is installed you need to slide the bushings back towards the front just a bit to line up the holes in the plate with the bolt holes in the cover plate.

I know that is probably clear as mud, but it is true.

Good luck.
