This is half my fault, but there is absolutely no excuse for the dealer.. I complained about difficulty shifting over 6 months ago and they said that they 'lubed it', which did nothing. So I took it back about 2 months ago for oil change and told them to look at the transmission again because I had difficulty getting it into reverse and difficulty shifting while the car is moving... my service adviser didn't say anything about it when I picked it up and when I checked the paper to see what they did it said 'no condition'... so I do what I should have done back then and check the transmission fluid and it's about an inch below the minimum line. Aside from being a tad pissed I am also concerned that my transmission has undergone a hell of alot of stress over the past half of a year. I am having a second diff installed this Tuesday, is there anything that I should tell them to check or should I even bother... or should I take it to a better dealer. I am pretty unhappy to say the least. |

Not too suprised. After one of my service visits I popped the hood to check things over and here's how I found the clutch fluid. http://www.ciws.net/ctsv/clutchfluid1.jpg
note how far below the minimum fill line it is. I called the service advisor back up and asked if fluid levels were supposed to be checked when the car was in to be serviced, and was told yes. So I took that pic and went back the next day to show them what I had found.
The truth of the matter here is dealerships vary greatly in service and customer care. If you find a good one, stick with them. If you find a bad one, look for another. If you don't have any choice, watch them like a hawk.

This is killing me too because one of the main reasons that I was going to get a G35 was because the tranny was so clunky and rough and on Tuesday I am scheduled for the diff and Im scheduled out at the Infiniti dealership for an appraisal on the GTO. I should have checked a while ago. |

The truth of the matter is you're probably going to find the same kind of thing no matter what car you buy. As with ANY service, car repair, electronics, or carpet cleaning. If you find a good one stick with them, etc, etc. |

They have a Cadillac franchise also and that's where I bought my V. They only do the TSB and state inspections for me - I do the rest myself. I don't trust any dealer service to do routine stuff.

T | Yeah I was at the Cochran Infiniti dealership last Thursday and stopped at the MegaCenter to look at their new V's a couple of weeks ago... they seem to be way better than Rohrich, that's where I go, I cannot stand driving anywhere near Monroeville. It was you that told me to ask for a particular person there wasn't it? |

The saleman I had was a dork. But at least he knew there was a V - the moron at Rohrich never heard of the car in Feb 2004. |

The 'technician' that I took a drive with was a complete imbecile and had probably never seen a manual transmission in his life. It was dealing with these goons that pissed me off so much and I vented here. I definitely will not be going there ever again. |

No offense or anything guys but this is why you just need to learn to do it yourself. If you can afford to purchase/lease/finance/mow enough lawns, to get your hands on a V you obviously are not a complete moron.... most the people working on your car ARE. Not to totally bash factory techs and stereotype but as they say "if you want it done right......" |

I expected my car (I am young and am learning) to be properly taken care of by a dealer that has supposedly won many awards for their service.. especially since it is one of the more prized Cadillacs.. |

I do have time to check the transmission fluid, but I didn't think it was that simple. I thought it was something with the clutch not disengaging/engaging properly. Had I know it was the fluid I certainly would have done it myself. |

LOL WHEN (not if) my diff goes, i'll be taking it to the dealer for my free one. After its installed i'll be double checking to see if they actually put fluid in the thing and bolted it down.
If there is one thing I have learned about cars over the years is it is almost never a complex problem. More often than not ya find yourself thinking of some nightmareish combination of problems causing the symptoms and its never until the very end that you find out it was something so damn basic that you never even thought to check it lol.
As a great illustration I had a car that I was doing routine maintenance on (cap, rotor, plugs, wires, oil, etc) that after it was all put together would not fire. Well there was no sense checking the ignition system since that was all new so I started checking injectors, plug gap, electrical connections, diagnostic codes, sensors, etc. Nothing fixed it so pissed off i quit for the day. Went back out the next morning and realized I took the old rotor out and never put the new one back in. ;-) | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
