So I roll through the brands with her and we (of freaking course) are looking at BMW, Infiniti, and Acura. We hit the Infiniti dealer and drive a G35 coupe (stick) and the new body style G35 sedan (auto). Very impressed with the new G35 sedan interior and exterior, 306 HP, etc. What I was really impressed with was the rev-matching down-shifts the auto trans can do in "manual" mode. (Yes, we were there for the wife, but Tim got to play).
Guys, this trans does it perfectly....very impressed. No lunging, just a flick back on the lever, RPMs match up (even when still on the accelerator). And since the new body-style sedan was a preview of the G37 coupe that is coming out late summer 07, my bet the G37 coupe (330 HP) with auto would be tons of fun on the track. G37 is on the latest C&D cover...so I read the article. No contest for V until they introduce some heavy engine mods, but looks pretty hot. Left infiniti dealer impressed...mostly about the auto trans, looks of the car, and creature comforts (Nav, voice activation, etc.)
So to bring it back to CTSV-ville, we cruise to the dealer in the V and the sales guy keeps wanting to talk about the V I keep trying to tell the guy that we are here for the wife (and he better start paying attention to her), but he keeps making comments like "its no V though", "you're car can blow the doors off this guy", and more questions about my car. Wife is just sitting there smiling...she knew I was loving it. Kinda funny when we are in the middle of the test drive of the car he is trying to sell us and he wants to talk about the V.

I also looked at the new G35 sedan, almost bought one instead of the V...the 6MT sport..sweet ride for sure. But after I drove my V I was hooked, much faster and actually a little more refined, but it had more "soul" in my opinion than the Infinity. I tried the auto also, fun drive...but not a manual |

It just a tiny bit slower, but the handling is on par and has the newer generation GPS, blue tooth and steering voice controls. I also appreciated the added 5 MPG and I've only been to the service department for two oil changes in 6 months, which was not the case with the V........
Not to mention that new, there is more than a 10K difference between the two.

Rumored that it would come to the States as an Infiniti and in the G35/37 skin. Will have to check www.thecarconnection.com for the latest.

Jpr | Ditto...liked all those things too. But the V just has a that "I'm going to beat you up and take your lunch money" kind of feel. I don't think I could ever get that feeling from an Infiniti.

Not to mention that G35s are a dime a dozen in these parts. Same goes for 3-series Beamers. I rarely ever see V's...maybe cuz they're in the shop?
...the comment that they're 'just a tiny bit slower' is a bit optimistic. A low 13-sec car is not 'just a bit' faster than a low 14-sec car. That's about 8-10 car lengths in a 1/4 mile race. Awesome car either way!

That was a few weeks ago. I can't find anything else I like. It really reminded me of the V. Since getting rid of the V in December of last year, I've been itching for a good alternative. The G might not be as fast or have a visceral V8 but, it's a much better compromise over the mechanical blues GM has imposed on the V. |

They have such a narrow power band you would be endlessly shifting with a standard. To their credit, the new autos do a pretty good job of it. |
