Exclamation Rear Interior panel Disassembly help needed!!

    Hi guys,

I just got my windows tinted... Went with 35% charcoal all around... I love it... its perfect (for me atleast). Anyways.... The tint guy talked me into removing my onstar antenna from the rear window of my 04. Now i have the wire hanging with a male mini-uhf connector..... So, off to RS and picked up a female mini-uhf to BNC adapter and a 800mhz BNC scanner antenna. Got it all taped up and ready to be tucked under the rear interior panel where the antenna wire is coming out (to the left of the rear window)... I just need to know how to get this panel off.. Thanks...

Carefully pop off the "air bag" tab with a small flathead screwdriver. There's a 7mm bolt hiding waaaay behind it (you'll need a flashlight to see it)- use a magnetic socket to get that out. Once that bolt is out, you can pull the top of the panel toward you, then pull the whole panel up to free it from the rear package shelf.

While it's apart, check to see if the plastic hole that the bolt went through is cacked or broken (probably is). If so, put a washer on the bolt when you reinstall it to keep the panel from sagging in the future. Also, don't forget to pay attention the the white plastic guide clip that's on the side of the rear shelf: The bottom of the sail panel goes inboard (toward the center of the car) of that clip.

Just emphasising the carefully pop off air bag tab....those suckers break VERY easily...I had to ghetto rig mine to stay on after I popped it off.
