I took off the antenna from the rear glass, then i purchased a smaller whip and set it flat, then i double sided taped the two antenna pieces togeather (but first i cleaned the old tape off of both halfs). I then took off the rear passenger sill and wire tied the antenna to the wires behind it. You cannot see the antenna or any antenna wire anymore, and the reception couldn't be any better. That is... Until they make the switch to digital.
The dealer swore my "V" was a 05 when i had in for service! |

I've been searching on the subject of removing the antenna off of the rear glass on the 04's because I don't like the look. One thing I was considering was trying to get an XM/Onstar antenna like the 05-up's have but pass posts said it couldn't be done due to mine being analog and the newer ones digital. So this upgrade to digital solves this problem, right? | Nope.
I had the digital upgrade on my '04 and they do replace the antenna but it's replaced with one that looks almost identical to the original and is still on the rear window glass. |

Then, while four wheeling in our Z71 Tahoe in Colorado (not our V), a rock punctured both passenger side tires. We were on rims in less than 1 minute. We had been off road for about 3 hours on a "jeep trail" as they call them there (one lane rutted path). As I frantically look at mountain tops, trying to pick one to hike up in hopes of finding cell service, my young daughter calmly says, use OnStar. Never crossed my mind. It so happens it did have service. The attendant informs me that we are 32 miles from the nearest paved road, "but not a problem, we'll see what we can do". Mind you, that was 32 miles as the crow flies. It took five hours, but a 4 wheel drive flatbed tow truck managed its way to us, and hauled us out and we had two new tires mounted that night. $400 in tires and $700 in towing... all covered as a part of the OnStar service. That incident pays for 5 years of OnStar.
That's peace of mind...
(BTW, we now carry two spares when we go deep off roading) |

(BTW, we now carry two spares when we go deep off roading) | Kepp in mind that the towing and tires were payed for by your Chevrolet Warranty, not OnStar.
That's a great story and more proof that OnStar is worth the money, I just want to be sure that credit is given where deserved for the warranty. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
