I got dressed, walked down to Baby-V and drove her to my mechanic w/ a set of Kooks in the trunk to be installed. Around 4pm I get the call that the car is ready. Cool, but my wife is at work and I don't have a ride to the shop until 6ish. 'No problem' the shop owner said, 'we'll just leave the car in the front and you can pay me later.' Awesome.
So the wifey gets home and we go to get the car. I can't wait to hear that new exhaust note! Get to the shop and the car is sitting all pretty in the front. Tonight I was going to give her a thorough bath since tomorrow is the local Caddy meet. Cool. Well, I go up to the side of the car and hit the unlock button on the fob....nothing. Hmm, weird. So I just pull out the key and unlock the door. I put in the key and give her a twist...boy is this thing going to sound mean! Click, click, click...nothing. Frickin' car is dead. My wife had since driven down the road a quarter mile and was well on her way. I called her back and we spent the next 20 min trying to jump the car. Nothing. Deader than dead. It would crank a little but just wasn't catching. Could it have anything to do with the little tiny jumper cable wires I was using? Ugh.
In the all-too-recent past I've had Magnavolts that won't stop running the fuel pump but a quick jump always brought her back to life. Obviously, they got the car from the garage to the front so it must have been running after the header install. I hope it's simple cuz I really don't want to miss the damn Caddy meet tomorrow! |

I'll call 'em tomorrow and make that suggestion if it won't start otherwise. I just looked up the shop info and they don't open until 10am. The meet starts at 11am and the car is super dirty. Time for an automatic washer...maybe. |

Certainly you KNOW it's just something stupid and that you'll be pushing through the gears over to the meet at about 10:01 am.
Don't forget to post up your impressions.

Probably had doors open or radio playing all day or left dome light or something unseen like glove box. My battery got to where it didn't take much to poop out.
If you have cheapo jumper cables you'll have to have jumping car run for several minutes to charge the low battery, so it is a charging vehicle not a jumping vehicle. Also now's a good time to get AAA.
It'll probably be something simple not heinous. |

When I jumped it, it was the same thing, cranked real slow the first time and wouldnt start. The second time, it cranked ok and started after a few seconds of cranking.
Interestingly, when I ran out of gas once, it took starting the car about 5 times before it finally ran without dying.
I think this car just has too much hardware. |

In the "old days," you had to pour a little fuel into the carb first when you ran out. |

It turned out to be another bad Magnavolt. This one is my 4th. I thought it went bad about 2 wks ago but then it kept running normally so I just forgot about it. Guess it was just riding the edge btwn life and death. I bypassed it and the car fired right up...with a jump, of course.
Anybody have any ideas of how to make a different type of fuel regulator. My Comptech supercharger on my last Acura had a pressure-type plate that mechanically altered the fuel pressure when it sensed boost. Seems more fool-proof. This Magnuson piece of shit isn't worth the piss from the beers I drink due to frustration. |

Anyone else? One person is good enough for me. This Magnavolt problem (and the rear end) is the only thing keeping me away from a 2.6" pulley and some Alky-injection! |

My magnavolt works.
It is the older model which mounted in the trunk.
I think the new ones don't like the engine heat. |

How about relocating the unit out of the engine compartment? | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
