Now, I think we have found the motor going in the CTS-V. The LS3.

If they do not fit at least 500HP into the new generation V, it will lose the HP wars with the BMWs of the world. I feel and others as well that it would detract from its bragging rights and make it another run of the mill car. 08/09 will be a very competitive market. They must do something to make the car more exclusive than its competitors.

F said this over three months ago, makes sense if Cadillac wants to keep MSRP at or about current prices. The LS7 would bump the price at least another $10K, if not $15K; I bet the cost difference to GM is only about half of that. The spread in price of the C6 vs. C6Z is much more than $15K. I realize the C6Z offers more than just an engine upgrade, but that is the one component on which they place their marketing, thus price, strategy.

Needs a supercharger, and hopefully a diff thats rated at or above the torque specs of the engine.

Who knows, the hp war could be over given the high oil prices by 2009-2010. I'm currently paying $3.45 for 92. That equates to about a $55-$60 fill-up but in my mind its a form of entertainment and therefore I can justify it.

I just wonder how difficult it will be to add the same Lysholm supercharger to the LS3 in the V.

My thoughts are that between the insurance companies and the gasoline prices, the HP wars will come to an end soon. GM has already announced that they are suspending the development of the new RWD Impala SS, GTO and a few other cars they were working on due to the new CAFE regulations that they could not meet with High HP RWD cars.
Insurance companies are already stinging from events like Katrina and also the heavy internet competition, I think they are going to start focusing on the costs of insuring these high HP cars. Almost everyone I know with an 05 or 06 GTO has wrecked the car, or almost wrecked it, including myself. The LS2 had too much low end torque for the car and was just so easy to spin out. When there is low price performance like that, in a car almost anyone can afford it is just a dangerous recipe. I think this is almost like another golden era like the 60's musclecar days, but that too came to an end at the hands of the insurance companies and gas prices. I feel it is about to happen again.

If they put just the standard LS3 in the new V it will be getting outrun by the likes of the Lexus-F

No way the next V will have 430 HP, caddy knows that for the V to sell it must be on par with the RS, AMG and M series cars. The whole point of the V series is to give Cadillac the clout they need to be taken seriously as a high end luxury brand. Caddy needs to be viewed in the same light as the German luxury brands to hold market share. In addition, there have been way to many rumors coming out of the Cadillac camp suggesting 500 HP, no way the car will get a stock LS3. The V series is a halo car for GM, they will do what it takes to maintain a world class performance image, even if it upsets the apple cart a bit with regards to the corvette. Just my 2 cents!

The June issue of MT stated the 09 CTS-V will have the LS7. It was referenced in comparison to other upcoming MB, Audi, BMW, and Lexus' upcoming releases. I found it rather interesting they stated this in factual terms.

Optional on ’08 Coupe and Convertible models is a new, two-mode performance exhaust system. Similar in design and function to the system used on the Z06, the dual-mode exhaust uses vacuum-actuated outlet valves, which control engine noise during low-load operation, but open for maximum performance during high-load operation. It is not identical to the Z06 system; the Coupe/Convertible uses a 2.5-inch-diameter exhaust, while the Z06 uses a three-inch system.
This needs to go into the next V! It's only worth 4 ft/lbs, but would potentially keep me from having to spend $$ again for aftermarket V8 music.
