    Say you're selling your V...

and don't want to buy anything *special* until the '09 is released, or the house closes and an AMG car is more easily acquired. What would you buy as your temporary commuter car?

I'm thinking A3 (I know, I know, but I must haul kids and dog, etc.) or GTi. The DSG is pretty nice, given I'll be doing 20 miles traffic each way to work now. Guidelines? Basically - have to pay cash with the proceeds from a theoretical maggied V sell. Don't even suggest a kryslur product, please. Must be kid friendly, and of course, modable.

    Bring on the flames!

That DSG is a lot of fun. Super quick shifting, its like playing Gran Turismo on a playstation. My friend has one, in fact I was driving it last night. Nowhere near as quick as a V, but with a simple chip/tune you can gain a lot of power out of turbo cars. Easy 25% hp gain for $600. (250hp/300lb ft, not bad for a little hatchback)

Yes, the DSG is nice. I know of the chips as well - some moons ago I had a chipped 1.8T. It will be difficult to let the 500+hp V go, but in many ways, it will be better. Using it for a daily driver to haul kids is going to take a toll on it - so I'd rather see someone who can enjoy it more than me - well - enjoy it

Nothing like having two gear engaged at once...unless they are sequential like a bike.

Cool car and many mods available but will not be the bag for the nick of the V.

Not even a V- owner, but I too highly recommend the A3. Perfect for a commuter car, but not at all downmarket, with a great size and style and absolutely terrific road manners, performance, and quality. For the price, you just can't beat one, especially if that's the kind of car you're looking for.

Eh, the A3 is nice but why not forego the ego and get something more fun? A Mazdaspeed 3.

What about STI or Evo? And you have to have Louis Vuitton or Gucci for the interior. Speaking of AMG, the CLK 63 is a racecar for the street. That thing is nasty.

Buy a Trailblazer SS so you can trailer your Lotus to the track.

    I'm liking mine a lot. AWD and LS2 = F U N
