SWitching Speedo to KM's from MPH?

Remove this ad
Question for all the V guys who brought their cars back to Canada from the states about getting the head unit to show speed in KM/h from mph. Can this be done from the trip computer menu or is there a dealer service/module I need? Thanks in advance for your replies.
Just bought a 2006 Black V in Washington with 1120 miles on it and am bringing it back to Edmonton,Alberta when I get all these issues resolved.

Touch your "main" button. Screen will show the main menu. On right side will say "set up" Push button. Should say measurement and allow you to switch from Miles/yards or miles/feet or Km/meters.
You can do while driving. The speedo needle will swing up or down to the new reading. Odometer will change as well. Heater will change C to F also.
I brought my car into Canada, make sure you use customs broker to do paperwork correctly. You will also need the month and year of production you find that on drivers door I believe.

ps Be aware that GM Canada will not warranty your car till it has 12,000 KM on it and is 6 month old. I'm in Kennewick Wash as I write this.
Gave my wife a bit of a White Knuckle ride past a couple of people, wound it up to about 100mph in 4th passing some semis! Still getting 23US mpg

Re: SWitching Speedo to KM's from MPH?

Thanks for the info. I wonder why they need 12000km's before they'll do warranty work. I sure hope nothing big breaks before then.
Mighty kind of you to help an Edmontonian(actually Sherwood Park) being from Calgary. At least your team will make the playoffs. Thanks again.

I'm guessing GM Canada are not happy with us saving BIG BUCKS buying in USA. This is their way of trying to make us not bring them in.

That's interesting that you say that. I bought my 05 last year in april and had no trouble with warranty coverage at all. My car was an 05 with an in service date of March 23 2006. It had 211 miles on it. First thing I did was take it straight to my dealer and have them give it the once over. My car had already been imported though by a 3rd party dealer.

Re: SWitching Speedo to KM's from MPH?

I`m in Sherwood Park too.
I`ve always wondered about our bigger gallon, if the mpg adjusts for it or not. If it does, it makes my 9.5 mpg even worse...

Re: SWitching Speedo to KM's from MPH?

Hello slaigher; Did you buy your V here in Edmonton or bring it in from the States? Who do you use for a dealer here? What color is your V? How long have you had your car? I live and work in Sherwood Park and have not seen one around. Mine is a black '06/tan interior which I hope to have home here by next week.

Slaigher
Our Gallon is 20% larger so your 9.5 USmpg will be about 11CDN mpg. How on earth do you get that bad mileage? I just drove to Portland, where temp is 76F by the way, I averaged about 22US mpg (26CDN). Spent afternoon in stop and go traffic now I'm down to 17 US mpg.

Re: SWitching Speedo to KM's from MPH?

Vonnie:
I leased(0.5%, 0 down) my V Aug 2006, from Southpark on Whyte. 2006 Stealth Grey. I actually saw another Stealth Grey V on Baseline, headed into the city. I was turning left onto Broadmoor and he was 3 or 4 lengths in front of me going straight. It was the 1st V I`ve seen here, other than the one from Grand Prairie that was at Southgate Hummer getting a maggie installed.

I bought a 2003 red CTS from Edmonton Motors, but they didn`t have a V when I was looking for one last summer. Both dealers are good, though I have been fortunate to not have had any major problems with either car. I use Southpark for my service work.

I am going to go down there Monday to see how much they will sell some stuff for - Wheels, Rear Spoiler, FRC covers, and whatever else I can think of. Lindsay Cadillac does GREAT deals, and I seriously doubt Southpark will match their prices, but I feel bound to at least see if they will be in the ballpark.

If you`re planning on going to an aftermarket exhaust, we can get together so you can hear how the B&B system sounds. Same with how the UUC shifter feels, once I get it installed.

Albertan:

I have never gotten over 10 mpg in town. Last fillup, I tries easing up on the gas - 6th gear at 60 kph, etc, but gave up after 1/4 tank. I didn`t buy this car to idle down the street... I think I got 23 mpg on the highway last trip, which included a 150 mph burst or 2. I am going to see if Campbell Automotive in the west end can tune it after I get my headers installed.

Re: SWitching Speedo to KM's from MPH?

Hey Slaigher, I would definitely like to hear your car for aftermarket exhaust as it one of the first mods I am considering. I am also interested in the shifter upgrade but have heard different things about it. A good buddy has a Z06 Vette with the same tranny and says its fine-the guys on here say it's an issue so I'll have to drive it first. You said that you are getting a performance tune as well-what exactly are they doing and how much? We'll have to get together when my Black V shows up and see how the 2 colors compare and to hear yours run. I will probably use Edmonton motors as I've bought Tahoes and other vehicles from them before.
