Handling Problem CTS-V

Remove this ad
Hello Cadillac Forum!

I've been having a handling issue the past little bit. My car seems to jump around on the road a whenever the it hits the slightest of bumps. If its a consistently uneven road, it is all over the place side to side. I havn't put it in the ditch yet but sometimes it gets a little scary, and i'm not taking it much past highway speeds now. There is no pull on the steering wheel whatsoever. It is jerky enough to shift your whole body side to side in your seat though.

The dealer told me this was how all CTS' were. I dont believe him becuase my car never used to do that.

Any comments are appreciated!

If your running the Goodyear F1s, they seem to hunt a bit when they are worn. Check your tires.

Actually my rears are bald (11,500 miles - horrible). The car is at the dealer right now getting new rears, the Axle hop bushings installed and the recent Rear Diff fluid change TSB.

Was getting .9-.95 g's on corners... but i dont think i know the limits of the car yet.

Re: Handling Problem CTS-V

Do you have a stock suspension and wheels? Stock alignment/camber settings? Cars with wider wheels tend to track into the hills and valleys of uneven roads. I have to stay on top of steering all the time w/ the more aggressive suspension setup I'm running.

Re: Handling Problem CTS-V

What you describe sounds like what runflats do. When I had runflats and would drive over grooved pavement the car would dance all over. It went away when I got non-runflats.

Had eibachs with spacers and mine was all over the road with any bumps. I was informed a good alignment would take care of the problem, but sold them before I had a chance to do it.

Ditto the F1 run craps are the issue. Mine was scary as hell. Went to GSD3s and finally to PS2s. No issues any more.

Damn... just bought two more for the rears. When you went to non-runflats, did you carry a spare?

Re: Handling Problem CTS-V

I have run both runflats and non-runflats and never had a problem. If you put stiffer springs and have runflats there is a good chance the car will dart side to side. Tires are actually springs. When you have runflats the sidewalls are very stiff, increasing spring rate. Then if you add stiffer springs with the runflats you are greatly increasing the springrates. If you added stiffer springs you may want to go to non-runflats to get somewhere in between.
