How Rough is Rough Idle

Remove this ad
Hey everyone, like I said in my last post about CVMS use, I am new to the forum and to my CTS-V. I was reading on CadillacFAQ that a rough idle on the CTS-V is normal. I just got it back from the dealer who agreed that the idle was very rough and they performed an injector service. As far as I can tell this service did nothing (I used to work at the Duke of Oil in Munster, Indiana and we did these services all the time). I was wondering how rough the idle really should be on a Stock CTS-V with the LS6 motor?

By the way the dealer that I went to was Kendrick Cadillac in Lafayette, Indiana. It was a great experience and I recommend the dealership to anyone in the greater Lafayette area.

Re: How Rough is Rough Idle

Not very rough at all. Just a little cam lope.

Only rough if compared to what the old Caddy owners are used to.

Re: How Rough is Rough Idle

Pretty tough to describe. It's not really rough. To me that describes it like a normal person would think their is a problem. Between the V and GTO I don't even notice it anymore. I'd describe it as more like a smooth shake of the car.

Re: How Rough is Rough Idle

It does shake the car? I had an 88 Camaro with a Paxton and a cam and the idle on that was WAY rougher, I'm just making sure I don't have a real engine problem here.

Re: How Rough is Rough Idle

C'mon guys we've been through this 20 times already! It is normal guy, don't worry about it and have fun! Does it feel like it needs a tune up like an old carb car? I am sure the answer is yes, then it is fine and normal!

Re: How Rough is Rough Idle

I just went through this. I especially noticed when i shut the engine off that things were a little rough. Since getting the motor mount fixed the car does idle much more smoothly....

Re: How Rough is Rough Idle

I like the idle shake, reminds me of the old days of muscle cars. I find it endearing.

Re: How Rough is Rough Idle

It idles rough. I'm so used to it now I dont notice, but I remember when I first got it. Some people ask questions, but not many of them. Unless other people are like "What is up with your car?" I wouldnt be too concerned. You're just paying very close attention to your car right now.

Re: How Rough is Rough Idle

every so often you get one of those "out of phase" shimmy's and you notice it ... but i used to think it was weird now i can't even feel it

every passenger asks me if the car is misfiring though

Re: How Rough is Rough Idle

My car has a consistant shimmy..like the car is ALWAYS shaking at idle. The dealorship says that the motor mounts are fine, and that all they could think of is to perform the injector cleaning...does this sound right or should I be looking further into this? (I don't mind the shake, like I said I have owned high performance vehicles...I have just never owned one that is high performance from the factory)
