Key fog reprogramming

Remove this ad
Ok so I lost my #1 Remote for my car and I don't want to migrate all of my settings from #1 to #2 and I don't want to drive my car as a #2 driver in my own car. So, I'm going to get a fob off of ebay, but I don't want to take it to the dealers for reprogramming. I looked on the cadillacfaq page and it said that the dealer has to reprogram it, but I saw on a 07 Escalade page that you can reprogram the fob via the DIC. Does anyone know if you can reprogram these on your own?

Re: Key fog reprogramming

I believe its key fob. If the FAQ says dealer programmable only then I'd say that's how it is. I'm sure the device gets an id set that works with the car. The new Escalades might have improved that so instead the car knows the acceptable device ids.

Re: Key fog reprogramming

Only way to program a key fob is using the Tech II...

Re: Key fog reprogramming

Yeah, I found a new one on ebay for $60. It is the correct FCC number etc.

Re: Key fog reprogramming

Just a minor clarification - the FOB itself is not programmable. The system in the car must be reprogrammed to recognize a different (or new) FOB. The Tech II is used to program the car to recognize the replacement FOB. This is what the dealer does when you by a replacement FOB for the one you lost

Re: Key fog reprogramming

not to be confused with the PAS chip in the key which CAN be programmed by an owner.. check the FAQ.
