    V coolant temp

    Guys,
Those of you with a V, what is your coolant temp in normal driving? I am concerned that mine is running high. I usually show 190-220 in normal driving.

What is the thermostat in the V? Anyone know?

I know the Oil temp issue, but I think this is different...

    Thanks,

    Reed

Once the engine reaches temp, always 192-195.

    Re: V coolant temp

The highest oil temp I've seen in my V is 230. During normal driving my oil temp is also around 200 - 210 so I've never been concerned. But I will change the oil at shorter intervals than I have with previous vehicles.

Was V coolant temp, now V oil Temp

Well since someone mentioned oil temps I've seen 275f for >10 mins while sitting in traffic (at night!) with peaks @ 285f. Seen 265f mid day during a 10 minute drive back to the office from lunch. Think I have a calibration issues

    *****UPDATE*****

My oil temp reached 236 earlier toady and the ambient temperature was in the high 40's. Now that I've been paying more attention to it I'm a little concerned of where it'll be when a summer heat wave arrives.

    - I wasn't pushing the car today and I averaged 15.3mpg (city type driving / 35mph - 45mph speed limits).

    - I also noticed that my oil temp readout was jumping in 5 degree increments going from 212 to 217.

My bad...... I've heard so much about the stupid oil temp that I didn't quite process what I read in your post . Other than that my coolant temp is nice and low.
Now I really wish you could edit old posts over a longer period of time .

    Re: V coolant temp

You guys are a bunch of nervous nellies...LOL The coolant and oil temps you report are fine. The electric cooling fans do not even come on until the coolant is around 215-220. Electric fan cars will actually show some higher coolant temps in the winter than the summer due to the fact that the AC compressor is disabled in cold weather so the AC requirement for coolant fans to move air over the condensor is not there....so the fans don't run....so the coolant temp creeps up until the coolant temp threshold at 255-220 activates the fans.

Coolant temps in the 220-245 range should be no concern at all. The system is designed with a 15 PSI cap and 50/50 DexCool/water so it will not boil until 265 F.....there is plenty of cushion there...and the engine will not be harmed by getting it that hot....

With the Mobil1 synthetic oil there is little or no concern at all unless the oil starts getting over 305-310 for extended periods of time. Mid 200's is cold...

The CTS-V has been wrung out at about every race track of any consequence in the world and it doesn't overheat so quit worrying....
