Looks like we might have another CTS-V lover joining the ranks...

NASCAR Champ Jimmie Johnson to Drive Cadillac in Charlotte SPEED GT Race

.....

"When I tested with Team Cadillac on the Sebring road course in February, I discovered that the Cadillac CTS-V race car's handling and braking are similar to the setups we use in NASCAR Nextel Cup road races," Johnson continued. "I'm hoping that my experience at Lowe's Motor Speedway will benefit the team because we only have one day to practice, qualify and race. I really enjoyed working with the Team Cadillac crew and my teammates Andy Pilgrim and Lawson Aschenbach during the test, and I think we'll be able to get our CTS-V race cars up to speed quickly on both the oval and the road course sections at Lowe's Motor Speedway."

Re: Jimmie Johnson chooses CTS-V for SPEED GT Race

So my neighbors weren't far off when they ask me if I am building a NASCAR in my garage.

(Especially when I start it!)

That rules!

Anything that brings attention to road course racing, Cadillac and the V is great news.

Well, it's just for one race. Mostly a publicity stunt for GM, but cool nonetheless. As I said, I'm all for publicity of our brand, just don't hope for much out of JJ. Going against seasoned road racers is incredibly difficult for a circle track racer- he'll probably just run a clean race and not do anything too agressive.

That being said (and not to jinx anything), let's hope he doesn't turn the car into a fireball on a warmup lap like Earnhardt Jr. did in the C5 .

Re: Jimmie Johnson chooses CTS-V for SPEED GT Race

Jimmie does well on the road courses of NASCAR. I think he'll get in the top 10. I'm a big fan of the Hendrick race drivers. Their Jeff Gordon would also be a good choice.

With That said..Boris Said could also do well.

Re: Jimmie Johnson chooses CTS-V for SPEED GT Race

The publicity that Johnson brings will be a big plus for Cadillac and especailly SCCA Pro racing that runs the Challenge. SCCA was losing money big time and almost scrapped the whole thing. They finally decide to save it with an injection of cash (enough to pay the outstanding debts anyway) and hired a new chief. He's been working on getting more sponsorship dollars, especailly from the car manufacturers.

Yo Chef... Next time you're across the street at Bondurant, ask 'em who's the best NASCAR driver to come through there. When I was there in 2003 they said it was Stewart!
