Just got back from Home Depot, starting on the DRL assembly project right now. Just an FYI, my Home Depot's Lexan selection looked like it got hit by a freight truck. ALL the smaller pieces were banged up very badly, so I had to go with a 24x11 piece. Should be perfect for the two DRL's PLUS you save $1!!!!! Wooohoooo!!
I also plan to use the DRL's left over clear portion to fab some clear side markers (as seen in another post a few weeks back). I'll take pics and will hopefully be done in a few hours (minus the overnight cure). Thanks Got5 for lighting the fire under my ass to get this project rolling!! |

I was planning to do this for about a month now. Finally got off my a$$ and did it.
I know what you mean by the beat up Lexan. I had to pick the best from the worst as well. Luckily, the Lexan has a white protective sheet on one side and a very light green protective layer on the other. I had hell removing the green layer. |

Well, if there're any bad cooks out there, I just got my STS fogs from Lindsay on Thursday. When I install them, my stockers may be available to first guy/gal who gets his/hers over done. | May I ask how much you paid? Quote:
had my stock wheels customized by a local wheel shop. The outer lip is polished and the spokes are painted black.
Here's a pic I took a few months ago:
| Looks good ---I opted for a black gloss powder coat for mine with the inside wells done as well for more stealth.

Well, finished and installed te fogs earlier. Picked up the Silverstar bulbs that apear shiny blue/purple but emit amber. Looks amazing all clear!!
I cut the sidemarkers from the OEM fog clear lens portion. I am still perfecting the sanding of the sides and searching for a light pastic polish that will smooth out the slight blemishes. I estimate another 2 days for those. When they're done the front of my platinum V is gonna be the sickest around. |

The New silverstars replaced the top bulb?
As for the polish, there was some in the same section at Home Depot specifically made for Lexan. I purchased a bottle but have not tried it yet. |

What part numbers for the silverstars please? This is the turn signal bulb, correct?
Working on a pattern now...and have the laser cutter set to cut a bunch of clear and smoked side markers out of 1/8" for testing purposes - HOWEVER - I believe both the side markers and the front lenses should be crafted from 1/4" or so material. I don't have any on hand and will order it tonight.
The 1/8" is fine, but the results will likely be better with the 1/4", assuming it will form to the contours of the housings.
By the way, pulling apart the front fogs isn't that hard. I used a heat gun only and a little patience. I should have used a lot of patience and the results would have been cleaner - but I got one apart no less.
I'll have them patterned up today.
Urby - what was that you wanted on your lenses...a cross that looks like a capital L?

Yes the bulb is the top bulb in the foglight assembly. It is a Silverstar 3157A/4157A ST Amber Park and Turn bulb from AutoZone. A bit pricey, but well worth it ($19.99). At night my turn signals can light up a wall 25 feet away
WW, get me some of those laser cut sidemarker lenses!! Need them desperately. My attempt at fabricating them myself (by hand, nonetheless) is coming up short. Laser cut would be optimal
Enjoy the pics, sorry its dirty, its been raining the past few days here in vegas. |

LV V, to bad you hadn't finished sooner. Just ot back from Vegas, I try to get their 3 times a year (Luv it!). I would like to see it in person. Have you put the highbeams in the fogs, I put the 9005ST's i mine and they look sic! Regular high beams will work as well, but the silverstars put out a blueish white light. The clear lens definitley look great on your color. |

Homemade smoked fogs are complete...as are smoked sidemarkers.
Thanks to those that pioneered the way.
If I had to do it over (and I might) I would use 3 pieces of material (not 2 as I did). I did it with an 1/8" base ring and an 1/8" lense piece - to better approximate the original lense thickness. However, I should have made the base ring 1/4" as the original lenses are closer to 3/8".
Also, I could have cut half the lense clear and half smoked with the laser cutter and easily solvent welded them back together...next time
