    Headlight Bulbs ?

Lights don't seem to be quite as bright as they used to; expected with HID lights.
Figured I'd look into a set of replacements...

GM parts direct wants 154 for each bulb.

AutoZone has Sylvania HID bulbs for 99 each

    Any other better options ?

Here's a place that has some name brand selections. http://www.highperformancebulbs.com/d1shidbulbs.html

You can try ddmtuning they are about $35 shipped/pair from them. I've had iffy results from them but never tried D1S.

I put their 6k D1s bulbs in about a month ago...I'm happy with them. Especially for $35. That being said, you're cheating yourself if you don't do HID fogs while you're in there...HUGE difference in light output.

    6k = "a little purple"

Whats involved to go HID fogs ? Do I have to replace the whole light housing ?

They sell conversation kits. All plug and play. Use same housings just different bulbs and add a ballast.

Wrong: very slightly blue. Sort of a Carolina blue to be honest. Similar to what came on some of the earlier factory HID cars before everyone seemed to settle on 4500k pure white. Also a must buy are some super white led bulbs for the parking lights. Now everything matches.

Hid kit was super easy but remember for a ddm kit you have to plug the ballast in backwards otherwise you will have the privilege of taking the bumper off twice. Ask how I know. Take the way the harness 'should' go if you didn't know better and flip it 180. I then used electrical tape to keep it from coming undone since the clip that's supposed to hold it is now on 2 different sides.

[edit] Snapped a quick pic on my way out to the car this AM. The reflection off the wet pavement is pretty indicative of the true color at night.

Does the bumper have to come off for this? You can't take the fender well out to reach this?

If you're doing headlights you have to take it off anyways as the headlights have to be removed from the car for access. The washer reservoir makes the passenger side fog near impossible to negotiate from the bottom. Taking the bumper off is easy using the cadillacfaq walk through. A little daunting first time through but as soon as you have a grasp of exactly what's going on it suddenly it gets easy as long as you have extensions and deep sockets...and a love for undoing all those clips under the bumper.

I just did the 194’s to LED's in the head lights from the fender well, and I didn’t really pay any attention to the fog lights when I was in there. I just assumed they could be changed from the rear without the bumper coming off.

The fog bulbs can be changed from the rear if you have skinny arms Upgrading to HID bulbs... I don't know yet.

    ----------

Just FYI: Lumens is what determines how much light you get out front; Kelvin is just the color of the light.

Skinny arms…? The small LED’s are harder to reach than the area where the fog light bulbs are. I just pulled the quarter section of the front fender well and that whole area is open when you cut the wheel to one side. The head lights are a different story, I know the bumper would have to come off for them.

I did it without removing the fender liner. Guess that would have been a little easier; cause I had to squeeze my hand / arm up in there to change my fog bulbs out. Right now I have the Sylvania Ultra bulbs; which match the headlights.

The parking lights can be changed as access is from the bottom of the headlamp assembly. For the low and high beams the unit has to come out as access is on the back and thus the bumper must come off to make this happen.
