PSA: $10 Ridiculously Bright Reverse LEDs

Hey guys--just a quick PSA for those of you who like to keep your lights up to date:

The following white 3157s are impressive--equal to or brighter than 35W HIDs. Despite the projection lens, there are no significant hot spots in the reverse lenses. I can read a textbook in the light of my reverse lights at 30 yards. Not only are these the brightest 3157 units that I've ever played with (and I've wasted a lot of money on LEDs), they're only $10:

The LEDs are so bright that they're roughly equal to the direct sunlight shining on the side of the white condo to the left. Note: tail lights are triple 25W OSRAM SMD LEDs.

The white fence is 15 yards distant. The silver Corolla is 28 yards distant. I stopped casting a shadow at 75 yards (despite interference from the overhead lights), which is about 3/4 of the way to the far condo building.

Standing at 50 yards from the car. In real life, I was not liking looking directly at the reverse lights from this range.

Incorrect. Cree sells everything from economy 3028 LEDs to LEDs with nearly 200 watt per lumen efficiency.

Let me reword that, the Cree type LEDs usually have higher lumens than the standard led.

Thank you for the info. I think I may give these a try on my brake lights as well. They're tinted and sometimes I get a little nervous as to whether people can see them or not. With these, looks like that wont be an issue.

If you do, the red color will look a little sickly, since the effective color of these LEDs is about 5000K.

I don't know why this guy is selling these so cheap--all of the other vendors are selling the same part for $45-55. However, if you go to another vendor, you will be able to find red and amber versions that will look better in your tail lights (albeit at reduced brightness, since the luminous efficiency of the LEDs drops off with color). I will be installing those aftermarket LED tail light housings on Friday--if my amber turn signal LEDs arrive by then, I may try to take pictures to show people.

Fuzzy, have you actually ordered and used these specific bulbs?

    From the description: $28.94/pair shipped
    High power LEDs(2pcs* Cree+8pcs* Samsung)

The other higher priced ones: $49.95/pair shipped
High Power 10x CREE SMD LED 3156, 3057, 3157 light lamp bulb, ~50W

It seems that the price difference could be that they used 8 Samsung LEDs on the sides instead of the CREE.

Might be a stupid question, but is this for a pair or just for one bulb? Didn't specify on eBay which made me think that this is for a single bulb...

Also purchased these. Backing up in a dark place with dark tinted windows leaves me wanting more from my reverse lights. Thanks for the tip Fuzzy
