Angry Re: Add on amp&sub with stock stereo?

Had a trusted shound shop buld/install a box with a 10" sonic sound labs sub with a alpine 1000w amp I had. $800, dropped off and pick it up. I'm not a stereo guy, but they did have to work around the factory sub, system wants to see all signals of factory system, (per their word). But, all said and done, this thing bumps. Keep in mind I'm 49 years old, so my opinion will vary from yours, but alot of kids like the sounds in my V. The worst part for me was the cost of dynomat to stop rattling! As always, only my opinion...good luck.

easy to do if you don't mind putting in the time. fishing the power wire through the firewall hole behind the brake pedal is annoying not going to lie but can be done with the help of a couple pliers.

At first I pulled out the bose sub but later put it back in and have better sound / bass response. Was getting cancellation with the sound waves coming up through the hole.

    15" Image Dynamics on 1000w.

Here you can see that Caddy puts in a handy clip that just happens to snugly hold my line output converter.

I also use a signal fader which I have mounted between chair and cupholders. Need one of dem...

    Oooh me next, me next!

First to answer your question, all you need is an amp with high level inputs, tap off the factory amp in the trunk, run your amp power & ground wires and you're good. If you have any further questions feel free to PM me, I have all the wiring diagrams, factory service manual, etc. etc.

Did this myself, 4 Alpine amps total (two hidden behind the suede wall), JL W7 12", 2nd battery in trunk and High Output Alternator among many other audio/video goodies inside the car.

Re: Add on amp&sub with stock stereo?

Well my setup is way more complex than a 1 or 2 step gig but I would be more than happy to help walk you through the process. What exactly are your goals, are you just looking to replicate something similar to mberisha and carlson_mn? One amp and one 12" sub? Do you know what amp you want? Have you ever installed an amp before?

For 1 amp and 1 sub all you have to do is run a fused power line from your battery to the trunk, run a lead line from the drivers side rear fuse panel for the amp turn on, a ground to the metal chassis and then speaker wires from your factory sub location down to the high level inputs and connect all to your new amp.

This is an example of what mid install looked like for me, you can see how complex my system was so it's difficult to know where to start to help you out.

Re: Add on amp&sub with stock stereo?

If you don't have an amp with high level inputs (that just means they can accept speaker wire signals and they steal the signal from them), or want to be able to run an RCA line up to a level controller, you can purchase a line output converter (LOC). That converts high level inputs to an RCA output. I then run the RCA signal to a controller next to my seat, and then back again to the amp for my sub. This way I have full control over the subs volume; each genre of music I have different tastes for how much bass I like.

    LOC: http://www.amazon.com/PAC-SNI35-Adju...tput+converter

    Remote level control: http://www.amazon.com/Scosche-RLC-Re...sim_sbs_auto_4

Beyond that it's all very basic, running a power wire and just a matter of finding the switched 12V source under the backseat to turn the amp on and off with the key. I think it's called the CCM fuse, or something like that.

Oh and you'll need some brackets to attach your sub box to the floor so it doesn't go flying around while driving.

I am going to install a Infinity Bass Link in my trunk over the next two days. I had it in my Tahoe that I traded in last week. The Bass link has high level (speaker) wire inputs and auto sensing turn on. It also has a volume control to adjust the bass. I plan on using the rear speaker wires coming off the Bose sub in the trunk and running the power to the battery. should take an hour or two. BOOM!

Nice... ^ Are those vents going up through the rear deck? Too bad that's a heavy setup I bet.

Yea it's a ported enclosure... Venting through the rear deck... And yes it's heavy lol... But the entire setup is now in my 4runner... Surprisingly the box fit like a glove in between the tire tubs and contoured the back seats perfectly

That setup reminds me of a couple I had back in the day. Damn I bet that pounds in an SUV. Nothing beats a big boxy SUV for bass production.
