Polishing a tur...I mean trash can lid, lol

Just a few pics of the recent mods to the stock engine cover. I have the GTO FRC's I did a few years back but wanted to do something with the stock cover. I found a used lid (wanted to keep mine stock for resale), cut the center out of it over the intake, sanded, primed, and did the two tone colors. It is all rattle can, and the color matches pretty close.

It is the Dupli-Color Perfect Match 8 oz. spray can touch up paint (2 cans), it says it is for GM cars, but could not find an exact match for the Red Line V, so I had a can from another project that looked close enough, 3 good coats of color, let dry, sanded, followed but 3 good coats of clear (2 cans), not crazy about Dupli-Color, but could not find another brand of paint that would match. Then buffed by hand with a mild compound, followed by cleaner wax then just a carnuba wax. The silver is a Dupli-Color Metal Specks Paint. Like to stay with the same brand of paint , less chance of reacting and mucking everything up. And yea hack away, no prob! Thanks!

The V badges are the originals off the cover. They are just stuck on with like a molding tape on the back of them. Be VERY careful prying them off if you choose to do so. They are VERY thin and will twist and wad up in a heartbeat. I did not want to mask around them so I just started with a plastic scrapper tool we use on the BBJ's and started on a corner very carefully and slowly till it started to lift, slide it in till it pops off. Then reinstalled with some 3M molding tape. Same with the Caddie Crest!
