New set of tires, Need help

I'm looking to get a new set of tires and have a few questions... I wanna run wider tires in the back so I was wondering if I should do 255 or 265 width and should I keep the stock 45 or drop down to 40... I don't want a big gap in between the tires and the car.

My goal was to go 265 40 18 in the back and keep the stock 245 45 18 in the front... Would that set up not look right, or will it work fine? Thanks in advance!

If you are going to go staggered you might as well get the biggest tire you can fit back there. I have run 4 different tire size combos on my V, so I know what's up.

I would strongly recommend running a 275/40r18, as that tires overall diameter is only 0.8% different than the stock 245/45r18.

Or you could drop down on the sidewall thickness a bit (for crisper handling and much better looks) and use 245/40r18 front and 275/35r18 rear. That is the option that I would personally choose. This option's overall diameter is about 0.8" shorter than the stock size, which would in effect lower the whole car that much and improve handling characteristics.

    245/45 18 front and 275/40 18 rear

If lowered you can do 245/40 18 front 275/35 18

    275s on an 8 1/2" wide wheel ??
    It fits.
    It works.
    It looks ok.
    recommeded . . not really.
Tire width spec. has a wheel width spec. to match the engineering specification of tire design . . aka sidewall stress and tread contact/wear.

I completely agree but most people are only going for the look of the widest tire even if it means it won't perform as well as a smaller tire on the same rim.

I think I am going to do 265 40 in the rear and keep the 245 45 in the front... I plan on lowering the car also. Will the lowering kit affect the performance shocks?

Go to tirerack.com and pick the tire you want.
    Then, click on Spec.
When you view the specifications, there will be recommended wheel widths (minimum to maximum) for all size tires . .
. . And a whole lot of other good information.

First Gen V owners have been running the 245/275 tire size setup for years, and I have never heard any complaints (and I've basically checked this forum daily since I signed up in March of 2005).
