Re: '06 CTS Oil Consumption Concern

Depends on a lot of things but since your car is under warranty, take it to the dealer.

My 05, 3.6l with mobil 1 5w30 used to drink 1 qt per 4k-6k miles depending of my driving habits.

Then, I switched to M1 10w30 which my car didn't like at all. 1 qt per 800 miles.

I switched to PP 5w30 and I'm now using 1 qt per 2500 miles-3500 miles and it gets better slowly.

BTW, my car is my office so from 6 or 7 a.m til 4 or 5 p.m, my car is almost running the entire time. If my trunk is fully loaded with products that weight about 300lbs, my car tends to consumme more and its normal. During business trip like 800-1000 miles at a time, non-stop, my car tends to consume a little bit more. City driving only, it consumes.

At every fill up, I check my oil level so I dont have any surprise. My 05 has the low oil level indicator but it triggers only at the "on" position with the engine off and only if there's 2.5l oil left or less (I did some tests) so dont count on that solution to tells you you're missing oil.
