From page 3-75 of the 2008 Cadillac Owners Manual: All Doors (default): All doors will automatically unlock when you approach the vehicle with the keyless access transmitter
and open the driver or front passenger door.
I found this out because I needed to open the back door to put a child in first and it was still locked until I opened the front door.
