| Re: Why My CTS (which I happen to love) SUCKS! You probably never told the owner of your grocery store that he was half a man and to go f*** himself, either. Regardless of the price of the item in question, I don't know many businesses that will tolerate that kind of behavior from someone.
I feel bad that Nick had problems with his car, but it shouldn't come as a shock to discover that a Dealer doesn't want to warranty electrical problems when the system has been significantly altered by changing and splicing in numerous add-ons: Installing LEDs, a new roof antenna and wiring, DVD players, a subwoofer box and new amplifiers constitutes MAJOR modifications to the factory installed electrical system. The MAF sensor might have been damaged while installing the intake, so that doesn't surprise me either.
We all love to hate the car manufacturers for denying warranty because of mods, but carmakers aren't the only ones to do it. I recently opened up an Xbox 360 controller to clean out some soda that got spilled on it, and there was a hologram sticker covering one of the torx screws. Why? Because once I open it up and change the way Microsoft put it together, they will no longer be held liable for the quality of the product.
Since car makers can't stick a huge hologram sticker over the hood release lever to tell when a car has been modded, they instruct the Dealers that warranty no longer applies to an area of the car that has been modified. Put yourself in the shoes of the business owner and it makes sense- you guarantee YOUR work, but if they change it than they're on their own.
I personally think that unless the MAF has obviously been manhandled then it should still be covered, mods or not, but the rules are so clearly spelled out in the owner's manual warranty book that I'm simply amazed that people run into this problem and still get outraged.
