If you have a pipe coming from the exhaust manifold (collector ??) that's the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) setup used to lower emissions of NO. It should feed to a valve on the top rear of the engine, near the throttlebody, and it requires an electrical hookup to the PCM (and maybe vacuum to the throttlebody). Different years have different EGR plumbing and operation.

Take a look at the pad on the side of the block just under the front of the right exhaust manifold....there should be a "VIN derivative" stamped there, and that's part of the original car number, so a GM dealer can tell you what engine you have.
