Re: performance upgrades

If I were an aftermarket car parts company, I too would beat my drum at every opportunity. K&N is very good at moving their product, but never lose sight of the marketing hype: "Gains up to......", "Can increase fuel economy by XXX %", "Flows more air than stock...." can all be proved or disproved by spending time and money on a chassis dyno. (....and DO NOT stick an oiled filter in a TB/MAF-controlled intake: oil vapor on a MAF is an expensive performance killer.

These cars already have a perfectly adequate cold air intake setup which, from the factory, flows more air than the engine needs at WOT. The trick is to get a filter in there which is not the main restriction in the system.

Just for grins, go to your local NAPA or large car parts store and compare several things about air filters: cost, construction, and most important, media surface area. The more surface area, the higher the flow with better filtration. Look at ACDelco, WIX, NAPA Gold, and Parts Master, for starters.

Google "knize oil filter study" and get a different slant on hype and your money.
