Strange steering noises

Remove this ad
Hello, having a bit of a problem here with my 98 Deville...

This started 2 weeks ago. Back then, when ever I turned my wheel sharp right with the vehicle not moving, I would hear this strange noies -- it sounds like two rubber balloons being rubbed together, or also like the suond that happens when you put a straw through the lid on a new cup.

The noise only occurred when I turned the wheel right.

Now, the car makes the noise if I am moving slowly or stopped completely. I dont seem to notice it at higher speeds.

Also, today, the car started making the noies very faintly when I would turn left...but more loudly on a right turn.

The steering "feel" is fine; it hasn't gotten hard to turn and it feels like all the power steerign components are doing their jobs. But sometimes when I'm in a parking lot trying to get a space, for example, if I turn my wheel all the way right and then drive forward slowly, I feel a slight "thudding" after hearing the noise. (but no such problem when turning left.)

ANy suggestions? I dont know much about steering and suspension especially on these cars.
