Yeah, this concept had nothing to do with anything B or D body. It was a FWD-based AWD iteration with the 4.5L...think of Deville guts of the time, but with AWD thrown in.
The overall look (not direct, of course) in most of the details is what translated to the '93 Fleetwood, actually. It was a case of trying to take a lot of those cues and fit them as best as possible on a car that used the same guts since '77 and also used direct swap parts for the Caprice/Roadmaster. The '93 Fleetwood was the result, still a big, hulking, RWD, framed monster, and not exactly svelte.
But the details are there...from the lower silver/chrome and rub strip, the grille, the general shape, and even things like the flat dash face with a thin wood/detail strip at the top below the dash pad.
